USING
THESAURUS
The best place to find synonyms
and antonyms is in the thesaurus.

A thesaurus is like the opposite of

a dictionary. You use a dictionary
when you know the word but need
the definition. On the other hand,
you use a thesaurus when you
know the definition but need the
word.
Dictionary Form: In this format, the
thesaurus is structured similarly to a
regular dictionary. You simply look
up the word you're interested in, such
as "fear," and find its synonyms listed
directly under that entry.

Traditional Form: In this format,

the thesaurus requires you to use
an alphabetical index at the back
of the book.
For example:
If you're looking for synonyms for
"fear" in a traditional thesaurus, you
would first find the word "fear" in the
index.
Next to it, you'll see a number, such as
860. This number is not a page
number but a guide number.
You might find this entry for fear in
the index.

USING
INTERNET
Besides the dictionary
and a thesaurus,
definitions of terms
may also be searched
via the World Wide
Web.
