Objective:
The student shall be equipped with fundamentals of measurements and instrumentation measuring
systems; operating principles of electrical pointer and null measuring instruments, their limitations,
adaptations and applications; Measurement signal analogue transformation and isolation; the student
shall acquire measurement skills.

Course Code CS 212 Total Credits: 12.0E

Course Name Measurements & Instrumentation II
Course Status Core
Delivery Mode: Lecture Tutorial/Seminar/ Practical Total Hrs/Wk
Hrs/Wk Self–study Hrs/Wk
3 4 1 120
Assessment Mode: Course Work (Quizzes, CATs, Laboratory): 40%, Final: 60%
Prerequisite: CS 211
Objectives: The course focuses on the operational principles of electronic and digital
measuring instruments, including transducers, signal processing and signal
fidelity. The course objectives are to:
1. Classify various measuring instruments and outline the limitations of
different classes of measuring instruments.
2. Develop an understanding of digital measuring instruments and operating
principles.
3. Highlight the methods and instruments for measuring electrical and non-
electrical quantities.
4. Develop an understanding of recording instrument, their design and
operating principles.
5. Develop an understanding of methods for signal conditioning and
processing.
Learning Outcome: At the conclusion of the course, students should be able to:
1. Describe the operational principles of electronic and digital measuring
instruments including the limit and uncertainty on data imposed on the
measurement.
2. Describe tools and methods for sensing of non-electrical quantities, signal
processing, resolution and fidelity based on the measuring instrument.
3. Explain techniques used in signal analysis in time and frequency domain.
4. Explain the operations of oscilloscope and the basic circuit blocks in the
design of oscilloscope.
