 Difference between HANA,
S4 HANA and Fiori

• HANA is a new database from SAP

• SAP S/4 HANA is an application which runs only on

HANA DB

• Fiori is a presentation layer (New User Interface) from SAP

How/ Why HANA is faster?
• High Performance Analytical Appliance

• In memory Computing: Data is stored directly in RAM(Cache memory)

• Column based: All previous DBs were storing data in Row based form, HANA can
store the data in column based also (Row+Column) . Column based data storage
results in faster reporting, also column based data is stored in compressed form

• Multicore Processors: SAP HANA uses latest technology and there are few
certified vendors who provide this hardware (HP, Dell, Fujitsu, IBM etc)

• Parallel Processing: Multiple users can perform business transactions at the

same time without creating the locks

• Powerful Calculation Engine: Which can perform the functions like Sum, Count,
Avg within mili seconds

Options
• SAP S/4 HANA On Premise: You would buy software
licenses from SAP and implement on your own Hardware
server

• SAP S/4 HANA Cloud: You would subscribe monthly/

quarterly, annually and SAP will provide you HW as well
as SW

• SAP S/4 HANA Hybrid: Combination of On Premise and

on cloud (SAP S/4 HANA On Premise (MM/SD/FICO) can
be used in integration with Ariba/ Hybris/ Successfactors
which are only available on cloud)
