RI PRESIDENT R. Gordon R. McInally message for September 2023

The International Day of Peace takes place 21 September. The United

Nations General Assembly declared this a day devoted to strengthening
the ideals of peace through observing 24 hours of non-violence and
cease-fire. It is not enough, as People of Action, to simply avoid making
war. If we are to Create Hope in the World, we must aggressively wage
peace.

Where can we begin? There are countless armed conflicts around the
world, and the global population of displaced people is higher than ever.
The opportunities are nearly limitless, but the cycles of violence and
hardship seem endless.

My advice is to start small but think big. I look to Rotary members in Pakistan and India for
inspiration. In March 2020, about 50 Rotary members from Pakistan met about 50 Rotary
members from India at Kartarpur Sahib, a shrine in Pakistan. The sanctuary honors Guru
Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, a religion practiced in both countries. Tensions between the
two countries barred many religious pilgrims from India from visiting the shrine. That is, until
Pakistan opened a visa-free pathway to them in 2019. Earlier this year, Rotary members
from opposite sides of the border again met at the shrine, this time with about twice as
many participants. Any work toward building peace needs to be brave and bold. What these
Rotary members have done is just that. The Pakistani government took an important step
toward peace when it admitted Indian pilgrims to the Kartarpur Sahib shrine, but Pakistani
Rotary members took the next step when they welcomed Rotary members from India as
friends and family. That is Positive Peace at work.

These peacebuilders did not stop there. Club representatives at this year’s meeting signed
twin club certificates to recognize their long-term commitment to continue to learn from
each other and to work together on more peacebuilding efforts, and they have held joint
meetings via video chat. The importance of communicating with and learning from another
culture cannot be overstated, and Rotary is making it even easier to do so. One way of
engaging in cross-cultural dialogue and building relationships across borders is through
virtual international exchanges that build on our current programs and make them more
accessible.

A virtual exchange uses online platforms to connect people from different parts of the world
so they can share their traditions, priorities, values, and more. Virtual exchanges can serve as
a window to another part of the world through activities such as teaching a digital cooking
class, learning a new language, or even designing service projects with a global impact. These
online chats have the potential to inspire new connections and more respect between
societies. Taking that knowledge and using it to better the lives of our fellow human beings is
the next step.

Let’s see where it takes us.

Warmest Regards,

2

Best Memories of School Days

“One of my most unforgettable moments was stepping onto the
stage for the very first time. It was a day filled with jitters,
excitement, and moments I'll never forget. This special event
happened about 11 years ago at my school; it was a cultural
dress contest. I had the privilege of representing the traditional
behuli dress, a significant outfit worn by married Nepali women.
In that stunning attire, my job wasn't just wearing it; I had to
share its cultural importance and talk about the beautiful
accompanying jewelry. As the competition went on, my heart
Rtr. Purnima Khanal pounded with every performance. At last, after the eighth act,
(SAP Officer)
they called my name. Backstage, my hands were sweaty, my
knees felt weak, and my arms seemed heavy. But I gathered my
inner strength and confidently stepped onto the stage. The
spotlight was on me, and I gave it my all, even though deep
down, I couldn't help but silently pray for the performance to
end quickly. To my amazement, my hard work paid off. Out of 70
talented students, I won the competition for my portrayal of the
behuli dress. This victory filled me with courage and
determination, pushing me forward to chase my dreams.
It was a moment that taught me the incredible power of determination and
persistence.Ever since, I've lived by the belief that 'When you wholeheartedly want to
achieve something, the universe conspires to help you get it.' That day on the stage is still
a huge inspiration for me, a reminder of the strength in pursuing your passion..”

School, just this one word holds thousands of unforgettable

memories. Among all those, the most miss is the best days with my
trio. I want to share one memory of my school tour to Pokhara. The
famous sunrise of Sarangkot was in our plan to witness. We started
our journey early in the morning. It was filled with laughter, chilly
air, and jokes. Halfway through the path, we were too tired to even
lift our feet. Even if I was unable to reach the top and see the
sunrise, I was happy and relaxed to have my best buddies by my
side, smiling with me. The school tour, picnics, classes all are
memorable. Even if it has been 7 years since I passed out of school,
the memories that classes, my friends, and teachers have given me
are unforgettable. I still remember the long line we used to stand in
to buy samosha for only 5 rupees per piece. That 20-minute tiffin
break used to be our best few minutes of the day. I didnt even
realize when the bye I said to my friends on my farewell day
became the last time I saw my friends and my school. It didntt feel
like before anymore. School days were memorable and gave so
many life lessons. I really miss my school, those care-free days, and
my beloved trio. - Rtr. Aarti Chaudhary (

Best Memories of School Days

School days are some of the most memorable moments in everyones life.
During that ime, we learn unforgettable experiences, make friendships,
and gain valuable life lessons. I feel blessed to be part of such a moment
in which I learned new things that changed my life. As I reflect on my
school days, smile as I recall the best memories that have stayed with me.
I went to a government school where there was no proper school dress
like in a boarding school. I still remember the white shirt and blue half-
pants I wore. I even cut my hair like a boy and called myself one, which
sounds funny now.Whenever I saw my seniors winning a prize in school, I
wished that someday I would also get that prize. When I was in class 5, I
started thinking about how to become a topper, and finally, I found an
idea to cheat in an exam that was running at that time. After all the exams
were over, the results announcement day was coming, and surprisingly, I
secured the 2nd position. While cheating in exams, I secured good marks
and positions, but I realized that working hard and studying well without
cheating would be my proudest moment. From that day, I worked hard
on my studies and focused more on improving myself. That
determination helped me to grab wonderful opportunities. I participated
in different inter-school debate oratory events, and poem competitions,
and even got a chance to work with the Biratnagar Metropolitan on a
health awareness campaign. I organized health awareness programs in
my school and even won a cash prize of Rs. 2800 at that time. The
cheating I did in class 5 completely changed my life. If I hadn’t realized
that I needed to work hard to achieve my goals, I might never have had
the opportunities Ive had, and many people might not even know who I
am. It was the best memory of my school days, which helps me to grow Amita Shrestha
and glow day by day. Guest

Everyone has a chapter in their life that they will never forget in their
lifetime. For me, that moment would be of my early school days from
where the journey of my education started. The first day of my school
was marked by a little bit of nervousness and a lot of excitement,
introduced me to many new friends and teachers who left an incredible
mark on my life. From doing homework in class to coming sweaty in a
classroom after break time and standing outside of the classroom with
my idiot friends was the thing that made me remember my school days
till now. I vividly remember those victories in sports, dancing with my
Jagadish Khanal crush on the annual school play, and group discussions during
examinations as my happy moments. Through my ups and downs, school
Guest
life shaped my character teaching me flexibility and persistence. From
crying for not going to school to crying for those moments life has
changed. As I look back, I am grateful for all those days and want to go
back to that time when the only problem in life was to finish homework
not to compete against the world. Thank you.

“Whenever I think about school memories, a smile comes to my

lips, and my heart fills with the love, care and punishment I gained
during my school days from my friends and teachers. I still
remember the first day of school; it was a mixture of excitement
and nervousness. I was excited as I wore a new uniform, shiny
shoes, and with the reassuring hand of my parent guiding me
towards the school gate, it reminds me of a symbol of innocence
Madhaw Chaudhary and new beginnings. School is the place where friendships are
(Guest) formed that can last a lifetime, and I made so many friends during
my school time. Among all my friends, some are very close to my
heart and always stay in contact with me to this day. The mutual
trust among my friends, sharing lunch boxes, secrets, and dreams
created a bond that will never be broken. These friendships often
survive the challenges of life, and the memories of my school
buddies will forever be a cherished part of my heart.

I also remember my school teachers who always used to encourage me, believed in my
potential, and made learning a joy.During my school time, I always participated in school
plays, debates, and sports competitions, and the memories of that time are treasures of
my life. School days were the golden days of my life. I wish I could return to my school
days. If I could, I would start my life again from my school days with my buddies and enjoy
my life to the fullest.”

Ah, school days, those were truly the best! I remember

the excitement of seeing my friends every day and
sharing those special moments together creating
unforgettable memories. The thrill of eating snacks under
the peepal tree and then playing games afterward. One
of my fondest memories is when we had annual function
days at school. No studying, just practicing dance and
getting everything ready for the big event. Those days
truly hold a special place in our hearts. I also loved our
annual sports days, where we competed in various sports
and cheered each other on. And let's not forget about the
school trips! Exploring new places with friends and Rtr. Muskan Nath
teachers was always an adventure. The best part of (General Member)
school days was the sense of belonging and camaraderie
we shared.
Whether it was working on group projects or simply laughing together during lunch
breaks, those moments brought us closer and made school feel like a second home. I
wish i could live those precious school days again.

My first and thrilling experience is attending a debate competition during
my childhood was both mixed feeling As a young child, I had always been
curious and eager to engage in intellectual discussions but also as i am
introvert iam shy to express everything when I heard about the upcoming
debate competition at my school, I immediately decided to participate. On
the day of the competition, I felt a mix of excitement and anxiety as I
entered the auditorium filled with fellow students, teachers, and parents.
Surya Aryal (Guest)
The topic for debate was & quot;Knowledge is greater than wealth " धन भन्दा विद्या ठू लो I was
assigned the role of the opposition. I had spent hours researching and preparing arguments to
support my stance, but standing in front of the audience, I could not help but feel a little
overwhelmed. As the debate began, my nerves started to settle, and I found my voice. I confidently
presented my arguments, countering the points made by the proposition team. The adrenaline rush
I felt was incredible, and I was amazed at how my mind seemed to work faster, formulating logical
responses on the spot.Throughout the debate, I realized the importance of listening attentively to
my opponents and arguments, as it allowed me to identify weak points and effectively refute them.
The experience taught me the value of critical thinking, research, and public speaking skills. Although
I didnt win the competition, the applause and encouragement from the audience,as well as the
positive feedback from the judges, made me feel proud of my performance.Attending my first
debate competition as a child ignited a passion for public speaking and debating that has stayed with
me ever since. Looking back, that experience was a pivotal moment in my childhood. It taught me
the power of effective communication and the ability to express my thoughts and opinions
confidently. It also instilled in me a sense of resilience, as I learned that setbacks are opportunities
for growth and improvement.Attending that debate competition as a child sparked a lifelong love for
intellectual discourse and the pursuit of knowledge. It laid the foundation for my future endeavors in
public speaking and debating, shaping me into a more articulate and persuasive individual.
“School life is a unique and unforgettable period in our lives. It’s a time when we transition from
childhood to adolescence, learning not only from textbooks but also from the world around us. It is
important to reminisce about the good memories that school life brings. These memories often stay
w/ith us, shaping our character and influencing the way we view the world.
Let’s take a stroll down memory lane to cherish some of these precious
moments. The bonds formed during school often stand the test of time,
becoming the foundation of lasting relationships. We used to enjoy doing
things together with friends like going to the toilet, visiting the canteen, and
returning home, all while having good conversations and gossips. School is not
just about academics; it’s also a hub for extracurricular activities. We used to
participate in various programs like debate competitions, speech Gyandendra Mahato
(Guest)
competitions, singing, dancing, and different cultural events, which are the
most unforgettable moments of school life. School life is not all about
seriousness. In fact, some of the fondest memories are the lighthearted and
funny moments that occur in the classroom. The wisdom and guidance of the
teachers will be remembered with gratitude and admiration for always
inspiring and mentoring us. Receiving recognition for achievements is a proud
moment for me. The time spent with friends during picnics and tours is the
most unforgettable.
Graduation day, the feeling of accomplishment and the sense of moving on to the
new chapter of life, was best encapsulated on graduation day.In conclusion, school life
is a mosaic of experiences, both good and bad. These experiences shape our
perspective, strengthen bonds with others, and provide a source of nostalgia as we
move forward in life. So, it’s a moment to appreciate the good memories of school,
for they are a valuable part of who I am today.” 16

Best Memories of School Days

The best memory I had of my school life was the “picnic day”. I had the
best memory with my friends and teachers at the picnic at Nunthar in
class 9.As we all know everything or every moment can’t be expressed
in words in the same way the feelings and excitement to go to the picnic
with collogue were the same for me because I was not sure about being
part of that picnic but unfortunately I became part of a picnic, can’t be
Puja Rauniyar expressed in words but the happiness in my friends face was
(Guest) unforgettable for me for coming me on picnic. We went to Nunthar
which was an amazing place in Sarlahi. We went on the bus and had fun,
dancing with friends and teachers on the bus. After some hours we
reached the picnic spot and went to the different exciting places, a
waterfall, and a suspension bridge. I was very scared of that bridge but
with the support and love from my friends, I lost that fear as well. We
had some photo click though we didnt have a good quality camera so
we captured all the moment in our mind which became the memory for
today.
We had our food at last and again had fun and danced with the music DJ and returned to
our home at night. Overall this picnic made memorable as that was my first picnic with my
schoolmates which made ur to get close with each other and know each of them

The memories of our school days often hold a special place in my heart, a time when we
were not just students but young adventurers in the world of knowledge and friendship. My
school - Mother Teresa
Public School, was the stage for a significant part of my early life, where I shared countless
moments with three wonderful friends – Neha, Archana, and Mona. Mother Teresa Public
School, with its incredible and vibrant atmosphere, was a place of both learning and
enjoyment. Each school day was a new opportunity to explore the corridors of knowledge,
and it was also the backdrop for our adventures in friendship. Neha, Archana, Mona, and I
were inseparable. We navigated the ups and downs of adolescence together, supporting one
another through the challenges of homework, exams, and teenage dilemmas.
Our school days were marked by various milestones, from our
first day in kindergarten to the bittersweet farewell of our high
school (SEE Graduation). Together, we navigated the challenges
and celebrated our achievements. The memories of those days
are like a treasure where we shared laughter, tears, and
unforgettable moments. My school days at Mother Teresa Public
School were not just about textbooks and exams; they were
about the friendships that illuminated my path. Neha, Archana, Monisha Kumari Yadav
and Mona were more than just friends;they were my (Guest)
companions in the beautiful journey of growing up. The lessons
we learned and the memories we created together continue to
be a source of joy and inspiration in our lives, reminding us of the
special bond we shared during those formative years.

MESSAGE FROM EDITOR
Dear Readers,
Warm Rotaract Greetings!
We are only three months into Rota Year 23–24, but we have
already accomplished so much. As we all know, August is
membership month, bringing with it fresh chances for us
Rotaractors to serve, lead, and make friends. This month we yet
again continue to make a positive impact on our community. I hope
you guys get an opportunity to reflect the month September once
again through this Kaleidoscope.
Keep Rotaracting for more events and updates.
