Read the following excerpt about animals and nature.
A lion’s roar can be heard up to 5 miles (8 kilometres) away. The lion’s roar
is the loudest roar of any animal in the cat’s species. Lions in zoos and parks
are less powerful so they can’t roar as loudly. Typically, the lion inhabits
grasslands and savannas. It is around 1.7 meters in length and can weigh up
to 150 kilogrammes. Lions often travel with other lions. When lions form a
group, we call them a pride. Male lions are not the hunters, although they do
rarely hunt for the occasional gazelle. The female lions are the actual
breadwinners of the family. They hunt in packs of 10 to work together to hunt
down their prey.
A tiger is a similarly large cat. In fact, it’s the largest species of big cats
in the world. It is recognizable for its dark stripes on an orange-brownish fur. It
often lives and hunts alone, far from other tigers. Each individual tiger can be
found up to 650 kilometres from each other. Like other big cats, the tiger
marks its territory with its pee. Their territory can be as big as an entire US state.
