Program Educational Objectives (PEOs):

 After the completion of graduation, within four to five years, the graduates will
be able to:
 Solve complex problems using concepts of basic sciences and core engineering
 Design safe economical and eco-friendly infrastructures.
 Apply innovative techniques to handle their technical assignments
 Take decisions with wisdom and self-confidence while facing real life engineering
problems
Stakeholders meeting was organized at the institute to formulate vision and missionafter completing a
well defined process of SWOT analysis of the college. In this SWOT analysis the Strengths, Weaknesses,
Opportunities and Threats of the college were analyzed with high rigor and vigour.
Facts of Jabalpur Engineering College, Jabalpur
Glorious Past:
On7July, 1947 Government Engineering College, Jabalpur was inaugurated. This event was followed by
the greatest historic bloodless revolution in the history of mankind, when on 15 August 1947, our
motherland ‘India’ was declared ‘independent’. Until 1947, there was only one engineering institution at
Diploma Level at Nagpur in the whole state of Central Provinces & Berar. Just on the eve of
independence, realizing the need of a large number of engineers for nation building activities in
independent India, the Govt. of C.P & Berar decided to open an engineering college at Jabalpur. Prof.
S.PChakravarti , Head of Electrical Technology Department of Indian Institute of Science, Banglore was
appointed as first Principal of this college. He took over the charge on 1 April 1947. The Founder
Principal, within three months only, got the college inaugurated formally by Hon’bleMinister of
Education Shri S. V . Gokhale on 7 July 1947.
The college since its inception has a well equipped High Voltage laboratory and
Telecommunicationdepartment which was not available in any other contemporary colleges. Even
before the advent of Television in the country, Telecommunication lab was established in this college.
The electrical Engineering Department has been made as one of the Centre of Excellence by
Government of India in recognition of its contribution in the area of High Voltage research and testing. It
is getting grants from the government to further promote research and development activities. The
college also has the distinction of being the first in India to offer B.E degree in Electronics and
Telecommunication. The first TV Transmitter was installed in Electronics and Tele Communicarion
Department on 24 October,1951. Similarly, the other departments of the college are also engaged in
academics, research, testing and consultancy work
The alumni of the institute can be found across the globe adorning very high positions in academics,
industry, politics, administration, research & entrepreneurship, thus creating international flavor for the
institute. Some imminent personalities of JEC are : Er. Sharad Yadav, Ex-Cabinet Minister;C.B Bhave,
Former Chief Secretary Govt. of Madhya Pradesh; Er. Sudhir Mishra CEO, Brahmos Aerospace; Er.
Anupam Shrivastava, Chairman BSNL; Er. Ajai Choudhary founder HCL, Padma Bhushan; Er. Sharad
Saxena, Veteran Film actor and many more.The college celebrated its Silver Jubilee from 22nd to 24th
February, 1973. which was inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister of Education Shri Arjun Singh & Padma
Vibhushan Dr. V.S. Jha ex education secretary. The college celebrated its Golden Jubilee in the year
1997, when the entire nation was celebrating Golden Jubilee year of Independence
Panorama of Achievements during the Present Decade:
Today JEC is an autonomous College affiliated to Rajeev Gandhi Proudyodic Vishvavidlaya (RGPV) Bhopal
approved by All India Council of Technical education (AICTE), Delhi.. Even in the present decade the
college hascontinued to excel and maintain its standard. It has achieved several milestones, living up to
its motto “Onwards on Wings”
Jec has successfully completed TEQIP I and TEQIP II schemes of Government of India in which emphasis
was on infrastructure. It has now been selected to participate in TEQIP III World Bank Project of
Government of India. Under this project the college will get 15 crores as financial grant to upgrade the
college till 2019-20. TEQIP III funds are made available for attending short term courses, workshops and
seminars. A Design Innovation Centre has been approved to be established in the institute by the BOG.

The principal of our college Dr.S.S Thakur has striven towards continuing this saga of excellence by
accepting the challenge of getting our courses accredited He has set up a new bench mark by scoring a
grade”A” in NBA accreditation – a well established signature of excellence in the world of academia.Our
principal has ensured that JEC provides a curricula with relevance to modern development. Due to his
sincere efforts the college now provides AICTE’s newly outcome based model curriculum to all its
undergraduate programmes The curriculum includes provision for mandatory internship and induction
programme as endorsed by MHRD.
Our excellence is not just confined to the classroom , we are active in organizing conferences,
workshops, seminars, guest lectures , co-curricular activities and extra=curricular activities. These
activities and educational methodology helps in the overall development of our students. Our principal
has ensured that the best of the technologies be incorporated in teaching learning process.
JEC has wide spectrum of students excelling in different field. Students have presented papers at
international level, are interns at Top International universities, winners of national level sports and
cultural championship. JEC provides a platform for overall development of students thus providing them
exposure to brighter career opportunities.

Courses Accredited:
Four UG programmes namely: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics &
telecommunication Engineering, & Electrical Engineering were granted provisional accreditation for
three years w.e.f 12 September, 2003 to 12 September, 2006. Second time this institute was
grantedaccreditation for five UG programmes namely: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering,
electrical Engineering, Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering & Computer Science &
engineering. W.e.f. 15 March, 2012 to 15 March, 2015.
Two branches of JEC namely Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering w.e.f 2019 to 2022
have now beenaccorded with accreditation by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) , New Delhi. This
prestigious accreditation has Put JEC in line with the select few institutes of the country. NBA accredits
an institution based on the quality of infrastructure, quality of faculty, quality of teaching –learning
process, and number of placements besides many other parameters. An Expert committee conducted
verification from ……… to……… The report submitted by the Expert team was considered by the
concerned committee constituted for the purpose in NBA. The competent authority in NBA has

Minimum 45 Days Industrial Training:

During the even semester break students undergo summer internship and Vocational training at various
industries. By the end of III year every student has got a minimum45 days of industry exposure in his
area of expertise.
Employability Tests:
JEC conducts frequent employability and assessment tests at college to prepare students for campus
placement.
Sessions by Industry Experts:
Various companies visit the college all round the year for interaction session with the students and guide
them with latest trends and technologies. Students have beforehand knowledge about the industry
needs
High End Laboratories:
The departments are equipped with high end lab facilities High Voltage Lab of Electrical deoartment has
been awarded as Centre of Excellence by the Indian Government and is one of its kind in India. Labs at
Civil and Mechanical Department are used by Govt. for various testing purposes. Computer Science
department has over 350 computers with 100 Mpbs internet facility.
Alumni Interaction Meets;
Being one of the oldest college in Central India we have a strong alumni base. Our alumni from all round
the globe come and conduct Workshops and Seminars various topics and also share their experiences
with the students.

 Administrative Hierarchy
An overview :
• The Board of Governors constituted by the government of India is the highest body that
approves and permits all major decisions of the institute.
• The Finance Committee and the Building Work Committee looks after the finance and
construction under the directives of the BOG of the institute.
• The principal is assisted by Deans Committee whenever important decisions are to be
taken.
• He is assisted by five deans namely Dean (Research & Consultancy), Dean (Academics),
Dean (Faculty Development), Dean ( Planning & Development) & Dean (Student Welfare
• The Head of the Department looks after all the affairs pertaining to the Department.
• The Registrar is the head of the non teaching staff of the institute
• The Chief Warden is the head of all the students’ hostels.He is assisted by a team of

Presently, this college offers B. Tech Degree Course in seven disciplines and two Post Graduate Courses
in various engineering fields, Four Postgraduate courses in Applied sciences and MCA.
For the in-service personnel’s holding Diploma in Engineering, Part Time degree Courses of four year
duration are running at night since 1966. PTDC courses strive to impart higher education to desirous,
deserving and working diploma holders for improving their professional and career prospects. The

Laboratory Facilities :
In consonance with the fast emerging technologies all the departments of this institution Have been
provided with modern and well equipped laboratories with the latest equipments installed to meet both
present and future needs. In the last decade computer has become indispensable. As such, besides
having a Centralized Computer Lab, Every department of this college has its computer lab to assist the
students to enhance their knowledge in computer applications and training in computer programming
at all levels and also to assist them in pursuing their research work. With the assistance of the financial
aid provided by the Central Govt. the institution has secured several modern equipments for its
laboratories to accommodate efficiently the changing scenario. This has given momentum to research
work and has also prevented the research scholars from the ordeal of joining other National Institutions
for their higher studies

Central Workshop :
There is a Central Workshop where the students are given primary training to hone their skills under the
expertise of experienced teachers. To increase the practical efficiency of the students the Central
Workshop has been provided modern CNC machines. In the central workshop the students.
Library :
To enrich the mental horizon of the students and to encourage them in their academic pursuits , the
college has departmental as well as Central Digital Library, which is rich and comprehensive. (The
software used for library automation is Alice for Window). It comprises of a large number of books,
journals and periodicals. Under the Book Bank Scheme the college has made provision to provide books
to the students belonging to the weaker section of the society, especially to the students belonging to
ST/SC category. There are about 5000 journals so that the students can keep pace with the new
developments and up-date their knowledge.
The library executes all its activities under the overall administrative control of the Prof.-in-
charge(Library). There is a library committee which helps it to carry out its functions including
acquisition, technical processing & circulation. The library has a dedicated team & staff who are
professionally qualified & competent to provide computerized documentation services.

The department of Physical Education provides training facilities for all the students. It has got
infrastructure facilities for both outdoor and indoor games 7 sports. The outdoor games include volley

Curriculum Development &Examination System

The college follows Choice Based CREDIT system(CBCS) of teaching and evaluation. The present
curriculum of JEC is based on AICTE modern curriculum w.e.f Juiy 2018:
Curriculum Design & Development:
• In the year 2018 a complete transformation in scheme & syllabus was done by the Academic
Council of Jec due to implementation of AICTE model curriculum scheme and syllabi.
• Curriculum has been revised as per the needs of the society and industries
• Curriculum is more focused on employability and skill development
• Start-up and Entrepreneurship courses are included
• Academic council ensured the mapping of the courses and program outcomes before giving its
final approval
• Every course is embedded with outcome based syllabi
• Interdisciplinary courses and subjects are also included in the curriculum.
• Internship program is incorporated after first and second year in all branches and these
programs are evaluated by the external Examiners in the next year o examination
• Compulsory industrial visit and summer training are the part and parcel of the curriculum
 • Effective mentoring program is conducted by the faculty to assist the students in choosing
electives and online courses by the students.
Examination & Evaluation System:
• The academic year is divided into two semesters: Odd And Even semesters.
• Attendance in all classes ( lectures, tutorials, laboratories, workshops) is compulsory.
• The student may be debarred from appearing at an examination on grounds of unsatisfactory
attendance.
• Question papers are mapped with course Outcome(Cos) which in turn results in attainment of

Civil Engineering department is one of the pioneering departments in the entire region of Madhya
Pradesh. It stands elegantly in the of the college, stretchingover an area of 4899 sq.m surrounded by
various departments and the administrative block. Apart from imparting education to UG &PG students,
the faculty of the department has also contributed significantly in providing testing and consultancy
services to local industries and state government departments. The undergraduate programmes of the
department have been accredited by the national board of Accreditation (NBA) under Tier-I category
of AICTE, New Delhi, for 3threes, i.e upto2022
Courses offered:
B.E/B.TECh. in civil engineering: Total in take in UG programof civil engineering is 60. From 2014
onwards, admissions are carried out on the basis of Joint Entrance Exam Conducted by Central Board of
Secondary Education. It also offers Part Time Degree Course (PTDC) in B.E/B.Tech. for the in-
servicepersonnel holding a diploma degree in engineering. PTDC classes of 4 year duration are being
conducted in the evening since 1966.
M.E/M.Tech admission in PGis offered throughGraduate AptitudeTest in Engineering(GATE) conducted
by the IITs and IISC Bangalore. PG programme of civil engineering offers degree in 3 disciplines i.e in
Structural Engineering,Geotechnical Engineering &Environmental Engineering.

Gate Qualified students: 27 &21 students were GATE qualified in the year 2018-19 respectively

laboratories. Under TEQIP III the process of upgradation of laboratories is under progress. Non-

• Consultancy Project of Urja Vikas Nigam on Bio Diesel testing was done by the faculty

• The Deptt has CAD/CAM/CIM laboratory which uses several software and modeling
• Mechanical Engineering Society of the Department is instrumental in organizing expert lectures,
technical seminars, technical visits etc.
• CNC trainer machine has been purchased from the grant of RS 5. Lacs given by AICTE for the
