Explain the following briefly.

1. Enumerate the types of weather and their definitions.


 Sunshine/sunny – happens whenever there are few clouds overhead.
 Cloudy – Happens when at least half of the sky is being covered by clouds.
 Partly cloudy – happens when weather condition is between sunny and cloudy.
 Overcast – happens when sky is covered with layer of unbroken clouds.
 Raining/rainy – having a measurable precipitation of atleast 0.01 in.
 Snowy – ice crystal that forms in the atmosphere and lands on the ground.
 Foggy – happens when cloud forms at ground level.
 Thunder & lightning – Result of a complex processes in the atmosphere. Commonly
associated with strong atmospheric convention and unstable air mass.
 Windy – happens when air is under motion.

2. Give and explain the different weather instruments.


 Thermometer – measure the high and low outdoor temperatures in degrees Fahrenheit
and degrees Celsius.
 Barometers measure atmospheric pressure, providing the measurement in millibars.
Under most conditions, high and rising pressure indicates sunny weather, while low and
falling pressure indicates approaching rain.
 Hygrometers measure temperature and humidity using degrees Celsius and degrees
Fahrenheit.
 Anemometers measure the direction and speed of wind in miles per hour.
 Wind vane, also called a wind sock, measures the direction of the wind at any given
point in time.
 Rain gauge measures the amount of rainfall.
 Hail pads measure the size of hail that falls during a storm.
 Campbell Stokes Recorder measures sunshine.

3. Enumerate different weather disturbances and their effects on the environment.


Tropical cyclones, tornado, intertropical convergence zone, and monsoons are some of
the weather disturbance and it can cause floods, wreaking havoc on roads, power lines, and
buildings which affects the daily living of each workers, students, professionals, and etc.

4. Give and describe the different seasons in the Philippines.


There are two seasons in the Philippines, the rainy and dry season. Rainy season
happens when most of the time is raining, usually starts from June to November while dry
season happens when most of the time is sunny, usually start from December to May.
