Assignment 1

Provide a picture or a drawing for each. Describe and make a general statement for each drawing or picture.
A. Research and watch videos on basic laboratory techniques related to the following:

1. Triple beam balance

A triple beam balance is an instrument in the
laboratory which is used to precisely measure
mass and has a margin of error of only ±0.05 grams.

2. 150 mL Beaker
A beaker is an instrument in the laboratory which is generally
used in mixing substances and also light heating.

3. 100 mL Graduated Cylinder

A 100-mL Graduated Cylinder is an instrument in the laboratory
which is generally used for measuring volumes of liquid and a
100 mL Graduated Cylinder measures a lot more than a
50 mL Graduated Cylinder.

4. 10-mL Pipet
A Pipet is an instrument in the laboratory which is generally
used for transferring a maximum amount of 10 mL of liquid
like from a test tube.
5. Test tube holder
A Test tube holder is an instrument in the laboratory
which is generally used for holding a test tube like when
putting over a test tube over a fire.

6. 25 mL Erlenmeyer flask
A 25 mL Erlenmeyer flask is an instrument in the laboratory
which is generally used for mixing and heating up to 25 mL of
substances.

7. 125 mL Erlenmeyer flask

A 125 mL Erlenmeyer flask is an instrument in the laboratory
which is generally used for mixing and heating up to 125 mL of
substances.

8. Iron ring and ring stand

An Iron ring and Ring stand is an instrument in the laboratory
which is generally used for holding instruments such as flasks
or beakers why the rings are placed on a stand and a source of fire
may be placed at the platform for heating.

9. Bunsen burner and hose

A Bunsen burner and hose is an instrument in the laboratory
which is generally used as a source of fire. The hose is the pathway for the
gas to the Bunsen burner. The Bunsen burner then acts like a stove
which is used for heating.
10. Test tubes
A Test tube is an instrument in the laboratory which is generally
used in handling chemicals. With a test tube, a substance can be easily
observed and given its shape, it can be easily washed.

11. Graduated Cylinder

A Graduated Cylinder is an instrument in the laboratory
which is generally used for measuring volumes of liquid.

12. Clamp
A Clamp is an instrument in the laboratory which is generally
used for holding round laboratory glassware given its shape.

13. Rubber bulb

Rubber bulbs are paired with a tube which the rubber bulb acts
as a vacuum which will suck in the substance in the glass or plastic
tube.

14. Thermometer
A Thermometer is an instrument in the laboratory which is generally
used for measuring the temperature of chemicals or substances
being heated. Its size is long which can be used for cylinders or flasks.
15. Wire Gauze
A Wire gauze is an instrument in the laboratory which is generally
used as a rack and can be placed on an iron stand with iron rings.
Solid substances can be put on it and also flasks or beakers.

16. Evaporating dish

An Evaporating dish is an instrument in the laboratory which is
generally used, just as its name suggests, to evaporate liquid
substances or solutions.
12. What is the dominant color of a properly adjusted flame from a Bunsen burner?
13. How many distinct cones does a properly adjusted non-luminous flame have on a Bunsen burner
(one, two or three)?
