Wekalet Behna
Is an Artistic Foundation that is focused on
Cinema, Visual Arts and Alternative Art
Education. Through our diverse programs we
work on analyzing critical discourses that
address prevailing cultural practices and
dominant systems in the processes of
production and cognitive reception.
We constantly strive to reevaluate rooted
concepts and cultural structures, as well as
deconstruct all prominent and dominant
forms that shape relationships with the
audience. We also aim to provide free
knowledge production in Arabic.

emerges from and within it. The program welcomes art students, emerging
artists and workers of the arts and culture sector to engage in multiple
workshops in order to develop their critical thinking and their own projects.
2-Creative Writing & Translation
Through workshops and visits, the program’s focus is to refine the research
and editorial skills of young writers, researchers and translators and provide
them the opportunity to produce their first works.
3-Cinema Studies
The program supports both creators and the audience and guides them to
reevaluate the concepts of cinema and the ways we interact with it, and build a
dynamic community that will be eventually able to challenge the central
narratives about cinema in Egypt, and provides an opportunity for a parallel
scene to flourish.
4-Music
The program helps musicians discuss the musical scene in Alexandria,
experiment, produce and learn more about music composition, management
and marketing.
Public Program
An open cultural and artistic program that is offered to the public, engaging
with contemporary art production concepts, while also providing the
opportunity to host and showcase a wide range of local and international
artistic productions that contribute to building critical and analytical thinking.
Fellowship Program
The program is dedicated to provide artists and researchers from the local region a
suitable environment to research and develop their projects, exchange experiences with
visiting artists, utilize our facilities, and have the ability to experiment, create and gain
exposure.
The Archive
In attempt to preserve part of the Egyptian cinema heritage, Our Digital Archive
project aims to create a convenient online platform that displays all of the available
documents and materials to be easily accessed by researchers and artists.
