SADGURU SRI GNANANANDAGIRI MAHARAJ is the embodiment of

Gnanam (Knowledge) and Anandam (Bliss). Sadgurudev is a perennial River of
GRACE to all of us. The qualities ascribed in the Gita to a ‘Sthithapragna’, ‘Bakthi
Sreshta’ and ‘Gunathitha’ fit our Swamy precisely.
Swami left His home in Karnataka, South India in pursuit of Truth. At Phandarpur
in Maharashtra, a resplendent Divine Light drew Him to His spiritual Master, Sri
Sivarathnagiri Maharaj, the then pontiff of Jyotir Mutt, Kashmir, founded by Sri Adi
Sankara. After the Mahasamadhi of His Guru, He adorned the peetam for some
time and then left for Himalayas for intense penance.
Swami carried the lofty inviolable ideals enunciated in the scriptures to all the
parts of our country and to the countries in the far east and Srilanka. At times,
during His Mission, He withdrew Himself into remote and dense forests for Tapas.
During the early part of twentieth century Sri Sadgurudev chose a small
village on the northern banks of River Dakshina Pinagini, near Tirukkoilur, and
instituted a spiritual retreat, Sri Gnanananda Thapovanam, which is sanctified by
ancient Sages Mrigandu, Kapila, Gnana Desiga, the well-known Tamil Saint poet
Avvaiyar and the three Alwars of Vaishnava tradition.
Sri Sadgurudev earlier established Ashrams at Attayampatti (Salem District),
Siddhilingamadam and Yercaud. Swamy made no distinction between the
temporal and the spiritual aspects of life. With the tender concern and love
of a parent, He allured those who sought His feet to the brighter worlds. He
continuously guided Disciples and Devotees in achieving self-knowledge, driving
away the ‘maya’, like strong winds driving away the clouds, through His Blessings
and Grace. To drive home the abstruse ideas, He used scriptures, mythology and
traditions besides anecdotes and popular maxims. His teachings are perfect in
their directness and simplicity, more beautiful and appealing. His thoughts filled
the mind and transcended it. The Swami’s compassion for suffering humanity was
limitless. He graciously offered practical solutions to life’s even little problems.
Though anchored in traditional wisdom His approach to the complex problems of
the modern man was one of understanding and sympathy.
Although a BrahmaGnani, Sri Sadgurudev stressed the importance of Bhakti, built
and consecrated Sannithi’s of Sri Gnana Ganesar, Sri Gnana Skandar, Sri Gnana
Ambigai, Sri Gnana Purisvarar, Sri Gnana Mahalakshmi, Sri Gnana Venugopalar, Sri
Gnana Dakshinamurthi, Sri Gnana Anjaneyar, Sri Gnana Natarajar, Sri Gnana Durgai,
Sri Sandikeswarar, Navagraha Murthigal, Sri Gnana Kala Bairavar at the temple
complex at Thapovanam Ashram signifying Shanmatha Sthapanam as propounded
by AdiSankara for daily worship. Our Sadgurudev’s emphasis on the respect for tradition
and Guruparampara is well known and is well brought out by the importance attached
by Him to the worship of Padukas of Acharya Adi Sankara and Guruparampara.
The ritualistic worship of Padukas in the form of Pada Pooja is being performed
daily at Thapovanam. Swamy insisted that, Pada Pooja shall be performed with
Sraddha, devotion and Guru Bhakthi. Pada Pooja occupies the pride of place in
Thapovanam. The poignant scene of our Sadgurudev Himself carrying the Padukas
on His head on Sankara Jayanti day in 1964 brings reverence to the minds of
everyone. He made Annadhana a regular feature of the Ashram, seeing Brahmam
in all beings. He assured all that His GRACE flows always like River Ganges.
Sri Sadgurudev, our Guiding Light, passed into eternity in January 1974,
responding to His Master’s Divine call.
Swami’s own Sila Vigraha in Mani Mandapam is blessed, installed and
consecrated by Himself, indicating to Devotees that He is Omnipresent.
The ‘ARULALAYAM’ in the Thapovanam complex, is the hexagon shaped
Adhishtanam Shrine where our Swami, Sadguru Sri Gnanananda Giri now
resides peacefully in Jeeva Samadhi radiating His Grace and Blessings.
Besides daily worship at the Shrine and special poojas to the Padukas of Sri
Adi Sankara and Guru Parampara, the Ashram’s activities include Annadhana,
maintenance of Ghoshala, Veda-Agama Patasala, etc.
With the Divine Grace of Sadgurudev, the Ashtabandana Maha
Kumbhabhishekam of Sri Gnanananda Mahalingam, Sri Sadguru’s
Shrine at Mani Mandapam, Rajagopuram and all the Deities consecrated
by Sri Sadgurudev will be performed with all religious fervour and rituals according
to traditional Agama/Veda on SUNDAY,16th June 2024 between 6.30 AM and
8.00 AM.
All are earnestly invited to participate and receive the Divine Grace and
Blessings of our Sadgurudev in abundant measure.
