CONCEPT BOARD

The commercial center's conceptual design is painstakingly created to meet

modern demands and problems while capturing the spirit of Bahay na Bato architecture.

The façade honors traditional Filipino craftsmanship and cultural legacy with its

elaborate woodcarvings, steeply pitched roof, and capiz shell windows. The interior

design places a high value on natural ventilation and plenty of daylighting, with huge

windows placed to take advantage of prevailing breezes and reduce the need for

artificial lighting and air conditioning. In addition to providing a hub for conversation and

leisure, the water-featured center courtyard encourages passive cooling through

evaporative processes. Sustainable materials are chosen with care for their long-term

beauty, low environmental impact, and local origin, such as bamboo, clay tiles, and

wood. Future additions or alterations are possible because to the flexible design, which

also ensures that the center will continue to be robust and adaptive in the face of

evolving demands and technology. The facility is friendly and accessible to individuals of

all abilities thanks to the seamless integration of accessibility elements including ramps,

elevators, and designated parking spots. The center's dedication to environmental

sustainability and community well-being is emphasized by its use of renewable energy

sources, rainwater collecting systems, and noise-reducing techniques. Green areas and

pedestrian-friendly walkways further promote connection and active commuting. All

things considered, the commercial center functions as a dynamic and long-lasting

center that respects the past, welcomes the present, and stimulates the growth of

Filipino architecture and urban planning in the future.


DESIGN GOAL

The Malolos, Bulacan-based commercial center's design aims to create a socially

inclusive, ecologically sustainable, and culturally lively urban environment that skillfully

blends tradition and contemporary. It was influenced by the architecture of the Bahay ng

Bato. Through the use of indigenous materials and traditional architectural features, the

center celebrates the rich cultural legacy of the Philippines and hopes to instill in both

tourists and locals a sense of pride in and kinship with their local history. Focusing on

ecological resilience and reducing environmental effect, the design incorporates

rainwater collecting, natural ventilation, passive cooling, and renewable energy sources.

Social cohesiveness and the wellbeing of the community are fostered by the center's

inclusive facilities, lively public areas, and accessibility features, which make it

hospitable and equitable for individuals of all abilities and backgrounds. With a focus on

future-proofing and adaptable design concepts, the center will change and grow to

accommodate new requirements and technology developments. As a result, it will

become a model for sustainable and culturally sensitive urban development in Malolos,

Bulacan.
OBJECTIVES

Culture:

Objective: To acknowledge and maintain the cultural legacy of the Bahay na

Bato building by incorporating traditional Filipino workmanship and architectural features

into the overall look of the commercial complex.

Consideration: To establish a connection with Filipino architectural heritage,

distinctive features such as capiz shell windows and intricate wood carvings were incorporated.

The ground floor's exterior utilized stone walls, while the upper floors employed a combination

of wood and glass. A courtyard was situated at the mall's center.

Ventilation and Natural sunlight

Objective: To reduce dependence on mechanical systems and promote comfort

and airflow within the commercial area, it is intended to imitate the natural ventilation

principles of Bahay na Bato.

Consideration: Create a floor plan and architectural elements that optimize cross-ventilation

by including raised ceilings, open courtyards, used of skylight and wide spread windows that draw

inspiration from the classic Bahay na Bato design. in terms of sunlight, used louvers as a natural sun

shading to minimize the sunlight entering the mall.


Materials:

Objective: to promote environmental stewardship and authenticity by replicating the use of

locally sourced and sustainable materials that are typical of Bahay na Bato building.

Consideration: Purchase materials from regional vendors to ensure longevity, visual

attractiveness, and cultural significance while reducing carbon emissions and boosting local economy.

Examples of these materials include hardwood, capiz shell, stone, and clay tiles.

Future Proofing:

Objective: In order to ensure durability and relevance in a changing urban scene, the

commercial center will be imbued with the adaptability, become new tourists and local destination and

embracing technology.

Consideration: Giving more space for food products and enable future additions,

renovations, and technological developments by using navigation maps and mesh network.

Accessibility and Flow of traffic:

Objective: maintaining Bahay na Bato's inclusive design philosophy by offering amenities that

accommodate a range of user requirements and abilities as well as barrier-free access.

Consideration: In order to promote social fairness and inclusion, incorporate accessible

elements like elevators, ramps, tactile signs, and universal design principles into the layout and amenities

of the commercial complex.


Integration with Nature:

Objective: Impart the peaceful coexistence of Bahay na Bato buildings with their

environment, fostering biophilic ties and biodiversity in the business district.

Consideration: Include green areas, courtyards with landscaping, and water features that

are reminiscent of traditional Bahay na Bato gardens. These features will promote leisure, environmental

preservation, and relaxation.

ORIENTATION

Objective: to maximize pedestrian flow and circulation inside the business district, mirroring

the well-thought-out design and spatial arrangement of the Bahay na Bato complexes.

Consideration: Create parking lots, car access points, and pedestrian-friendly walkways that

emphasize security, accessibility, and convenience of use while mirroring the daily routines of traditional

Filipino homes. utilize to make multi purpose area of parking/ event place and provide balcony and

terrace

Sustainability:

Objective: to uphold the sustainable building philosophy of Bahay na Bato by reducing the

commercial center's negative environmental effects and encouraging resource efficiency.

Consideration: Adopt green construction techniques that complement the environmental

philosophy of Bahay na Bato design, such as energy-efficient systems, water conservation measures,

renewable energy sources, and natural energy reseources.


Noise Reduction:

Objective: The aim is to replicate the calm and peaceful atmosphere seen in the interiors of

Bahay na Bato while reducing noise pollution and improving the comfort of occupants in the commercial

hub.

Consideration: Building a calm interior space that promotes relaxation, focus, and overall

well-being may be achieved by utilizing sound-absorbing materials like stone, wood and clay tiles ,

acoustic design concepts.

SECURITY AND SAFETY

objectives: Infuse the commercial center with the cultural charm of "bahay na

bato" while creating an aesthetically pleasing environment and providing a secure and

thriving space for businesses.

CONSIDERATION: elevated flooring, courtyard/open space, and natural

materials like thick walls include ensuring structural stability and safety for elevated

areas, designing the courtyard/open space for both aesthetics and functionality, and

choosing natural materials that meet safety standards while contributing to overall

security and safety of commercial center


UNIQUE AND MODERN:

objectives: integrating distinctive design elements to set the commercial center

apart, incorporating cutting-edge architectural features for a contemporary feel, and

creating a space that seamlessly blends unique cultural aspects with modern amenities

to attract a diverse audience.

CONSIDERATION: .Transforming a steeply pitched roof into an irregular one with

expansive eaves, crafting a commercial center design that harmonizes with the

environment, and establishing the center as a captivating tourist attraction in Malolos,

Bulacan.
