The fabrication and calibration of subtense bars are critical processes in precision
measurement applications. This study investigates the fabrication process of subtense
bars using Molave wood, chosen for its low thermal expansion and conductivity.
Utilizing a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical insights, the researchers
optimize the design and construction of the subtense bar to ensure accuracy and
functionality. Optical readings are carefully measured for precise measurements over a
specified distance whish is two meters, employing the subtense bar formula to gather
distance measurements accurately. These measurements are then compared to data
gathered from the total station to validate the accuracy of the fabricated subtense bar
readings. Collaboration with skilled furniture and machine shops ensures the attainment
of a smooth finish and the fabrication of important detailed parts with precision,
respectively. Calibration of both wood and markings is conducted to maintain consistency
and reliability in measurements. The research contributes to the development of reliable
subtense bars for precise measurement applications, highlighting the importance of
material selection, fabrication techniques, calibration procedures, and the application of
mathematical formulas such as the subtense bar formula in achieving accurate results.
