Internal Appraisal: Kingfisher Airlines, a former Indian airline, faced several challenges
that ultimately led to its failure. One of the critical factors that contributed to its downfall
was Internal Mismanagement. Kingfisher Airlines faced several cases of mismanagement,
including weak internal appraisal in the form of poor financial planning, over-expansion,
and a lack of focus on core operations. The company's management was criticized for its
extravagant spending, and the airline's business model was deemed unsustainable.
Tesla: The company's core competencies are innovative manufacturing processes, battery
pack technology, and the safety design of its vehicles. These competencies give the
company a competitive advantage over its rivals in the industry.

In 2005 eBay decided to merge with skype, thinking that it would enhance their business.
However, the values and systems of both the org. did not integrate with one another. In
2009, eBay reversed the merger but already experienced a decrease in stock.
TATA Nano was supposed to be launched at 1 lakh Rupees but due to political instability
the entire plant had to be shifted from West Bengal to Gujrat. Hence, they weren’t able to
keep up to their promises.
• Chapter 14 Control
Airtel’s strategy is to overpower the competition and to become the leader especially in
Indian market. However, the reality is far from Bharti Airtel’s intention. At Bharti Airtel
Limited, an attempt is being made by the company to provide the best network through its
new initiative – Open Network. Through this initiative, the company provides its network
information to its customers so that they can tell Airtel where the gaps are. This would help
the company to improve its coverage and provide experience like no other in the industry.
The company acknowledges that there are coverage holes in India and are still a challenge.
At some locations the company needs to install new towers, while at some others, towers
have been forcibly shut down. Such implementation control will help company like Airtel
to optimally utilize its infrastructure and achieve its objective of being the best network
service provider in India.
