Errol Walton Barrow was born on January 26th, 1920, in St. Lucy Parish, Barbados. He studied law
at Oxford University before returning home to practice law and become involved in politics.

In 1957, he co-founded the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) with Grantley Adams, and soon became
its leader. Throughout his political career, Barrow signed off from British colonial rule, eventually
leading to full independence for Barbados in 1966.

Barrow served as Prime Minister of Barbados from 1961 until 1976 and during which time he
oversaw several key developments that helped shape the island's future. Some of These included
establishing the university of the West Indies Cave Hill campus,
developing the tourism industry, and expanding access to education and healthcare. He also played
an important role in regional affairs,Through his leadership and vision, Errol Walton Barrow helped
transform Barbados into a thriving, self-sufficient nation. His legacy continues to inspire generations
of Barbadians, and his contributions have not gone unnoticed internationally – he received
numerous awards and honors throughout his life, including being knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in
1966.

Today, Barrow is remembered as one of the most influential figures in Barbados history, and his
impact on the region extends far beyond the island's shores.
