1) Write the Pros and Cons of AI?
First things first, it’s important to establish an understanding of what AI is. AI stands for
artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence (AI) is technology that enables computers and machines to
simulate human intelligence and problem-solving capabilities.
To answer the question, artificial intelligence (AI) is a powerful technology that is now being employed in
some fascinating and life-changing ways. However, with great power also comes great responsibility,
there are certain ethical and industrial concerns too.
But there are some drawbacks to any technology. The important thing to remember is that there are more
benefits than drawbacks to AI.
Advantages of AI
1. Eliminates human error and risk : The first major advantage of implementing AI is that it decreases
human error, as well as risk to humans.
Using AI to complete tasks, particularly repetitive ones, can prevent human error from tainting an
otherwise perfectly useful product or service. Similarly, using AI to complete particularly difficult or
dangerous tasks can help prevent the risk of injury or harm to humans.
2. 24/7 availability : AI programs are available at all times, whereas humans work 8 hours a day.
Machines can work all through the day and night, and AI-powered chatbots can provide customer service
even during off-hours.
3. Repetitive jobs : Using an AI program can save humans from the boredom of repetitive tasks, and save
their energy for work that requires more creative energy.
4. Data acquisition and analysis : AI algorithms can help process higher volumes of complex data, making
it usable for analysis.
5. Cost reduction : AI can help to take over manual and tedious tasks, it frees up workers for higher-
skilled tasks. That, ultimately, creates more value for the end-user or consumer.
Advantage of AI In Education
The afromentioned are some of the general advantages of AI. But how will AI benefit us in Education as a
university students and teachers.
1. More Universal Learning : Mekelle Institute of Technology is considered as one of the universities with
curricula similar to those of overseas universities. However, we are not yet advanced like them. Even
students learn at different levels, but they also have different needs and backgrounds.
AI helps bridge the gap between these students and universities by offering universal learning. This makes
learning more accessible to a wider number of students.
2. Personalized Learning Experience : Not every student in a classroom learns at the same level as their
peers, so by using AI to do things like personalized assignments or even exam questions, each student gets
the same course material provided to their abilities.
3. Virtual Teachers: With AI programs and apps, students can choose to learn anywhere and at any time at
their own peace. These virtual teachers can’t replace a real human teaching, but it can help students track
their progress more instantly, encouraging them to be more active in their own education.
Additionally, due to the nature of AI and its ability to adapt and personalize content according to each
user, students are able to practice more self-directed learning and work on subjects or topics that they
struggle with.
4. Comfort zone : It’s no secret that younger generations like to spend a lot of time on devices like phones
or tablets. Learning through AI-powered apps is a more fun way to study both inside and outside the
classroom, making it easier for teachers to engage their students.
5. Make Administrative Tasks Simpler : AI can help teachers with their administrative tasks, leaving them
more time to focus on preparing lessons and teaching. Tasks like grading exams can be sped up by using
AI technology and software that helps teachers streamline this normally long process.
Disadvantages of AI
With all the advantages listed above, it can seem like a no-brainer to use AI for your organization
immediately. But it’s also important to carefully consider the potential disadvantages of making such a big
changes.
1. Costly implementation : The biggest and most obvious drawback of implementing AI is that its
development can be extremely costly. The cost balances out later on down the line once the AI is fully
implemented and can help streamline the workflow. But the up-front cost can be intimidating.
2. Lack of emotion and creativity : The next disadvantage of AI is that it lacks the human ability to use
emotion and creativity in decisions. The lack of creativity means AI can’t create new solutions to
problems or excel in any overly artistic field.
Compassion and kindness are both inherently human traits, but cannot be programmed into even the best
AI.
3. Job Displacement : This is yet another disadvantage many people know immediately. As AI becomes
more commonplace at companies, it may decrease available jobs, since AI can easily handle repetitive
tasks that were previously done by workers.
4. Privacy and Surveillance : AI systems often rely on large amounts of data which can include personal
information. There’s a risk that this data could be mishandled, leading to breaches of privacy.
In addition, AI systems can be vulnerable to hacks and malicious use, compromising both personal and
national security.
Disadvantage of AI In Education
There are some drawbacks of AI in education for students like us if we didn’t use it wisely.
1. Cheating and Dependence : Students can use ChatGPT or other generative AI to write entire essays,
answer quiz questions, or do their homework. By doing this, we stop developing critical thinking and
problem-solving skills and eventually start developing laziness, and ultimately corrupt our main purpose
for learning.
2. Reduced Human Interaction : The introduction of AI in the classroom might inadvertently minimize
human interaction, which is a crucial part of the learning process. This reduction in face-to-face
communication can negatively affect the development of social skills in students.
Overall, the evolving role of AI in education offers both opportunities and challenges for students and
teachers. So, it is still necessary to use it wisely.
