Alice, Holly and Nick live in the same street and often meet at the weekend.
Last Saturday they decided to camp in the garden at Nick’s house for the evening.
‘Have you got any ideas of fun things to do?’ asked Holly as they all sat in the
tent.
‘Can we play a board game?’ said Alice. ‘That’s fun!’ ‘I have a better idea!’ said
Nick. ‘Let’s tell scary stories!’
‘I can tell you a really scary story’ said Nick. The girls were very excited and sat
closer to Nick.
‘My grandpa was a young man when it happened’ Nick started. ‘He was travelling
around for the summer with his friend Tim. They arrived in the Lake District that
afternoon and put up their tent. Then, they decided to go into the forest to get
some wood for a fire. They came back an hour later and it was already dark.
So, they started their fire and ate sandwiches for dinner. Then they decided to get
some sleep. But they woke up in the middle of the night because they heard a
loud noise.
‘Oh no!’ said Holly. ‘What was it?’
‘Well’ Nick whispered, ‘They didn’t know so they got out of the tent to see. That’s
when they saw a fox.’
‘A fox?’ Alice and Holly shouted.
‘Yes, a fox was walking around outside. It was hungry and it was looking for food.
The fox was right next to them! It’s teeth were huge!’
‘What happened?’ the girls cried.
‘They didn’t know what to do,’ said Nick. They just stood there, too
frightened to move. Then the fox saw my grandpa’s backpack next to the
fire. It opened the backpack, took something from it and ate it. Then, it
ran away.’
‘What did it take, Nick?’ Alice asked.
‘Oh, just some chocolate!’ Nick answered and everyone started laughing.
