of those steps?
Categorization of the significance of the change? → 21.A.101,
Classification of the change ? → 21.A.91
What is the purpose of Minor/minor classification and of categorization of
the significance of a change ?
The purpose of the classification Major / Minor of a change is: → To
determine the approval process of the change and the approving
authority,
The purpose of the categorization of significance of a change
(Substantial, Significant, Not Significant) is: → To determine the
certification basis that will be applicable to certify the change
Categorization of the significance of the change
To define if the change has to be categorized as Significant, proceed to the
evaluation described in chapter 3.6 of Guidance Material to appropriate
EASA Part 21 requirement, and answer to the following questions
Remember: as seen during class, those questions are used to define if a
change - that is not Substantial - as to be categorized as Significant
Is there a change to the general configuration? → Yes, the cabinitala is
fully changed
Is there a change to the principles of construction? → No, same as
inital design will be a priori used,
Have the assumptions used for initial certification been invalidated? →
Yes, for example cabin fire protection or load paths in the fuselage
What is the aircraft certification specification (airworthiness code) to be
considered to determine the certification requirements for this change ?
CS-25 because the aircraft to be modified is a large aeroplane
Analyse the Guidance Material (GM) "Establishing the certification basis of
changed aeronautical products" of the appropriate EASA Part 21 (Easy
Rules) requirement and its appendix A that gives examples to help to
define the significance.
Based on this analysis, is there any reason to categorize the proposed
conversion change as "Substantial"? No, because among the 5
examples proposed in the appendix nothing is similar to the change of
the exercise (conversion)
Yes, and my decision is supported by example 3 in the appropriate
table of examples of Guidance Material, Yes, I have anwered YES to at
least one of the questions in the previous question
