Cabinet approves Rs 3,760 crores for Viability Gap


funding Scheme
September 5, 2023

 The Government approved the Scheme for Viability Gap


Funding
 The scheme envisages the development of four thousand
Mega Watt hours of BESS projects by 2030-31, with the
financial support of up to 40 percent of the capital cost
as budgetary support.
 It has an initial outlay of about 9,400 crore rupees
including budgetary support of 3,760 crore rupees.

 The Malaviya Mission - Teachers Training Programme
was launched by the Union Minister for Education
Dharmendra Pradhan.
 The programme aims to provide tailored training
programmes for teachers to improve the quality of
education at all levels.
 The renaming of Human Resource Development Centres
(HRDCs) as Madan Mohan Malaviya Teachers’ Training
Centre was also announced.

JJM Achieves Milestone of 13 Crore Rural


Households Tap Connection
September 4, 2023

 The Jal Jeevan Mission achieved another milestone of


providing tap water connections to 13 cr rural
households.
 It has increased the rural tap connection coverage from
only 3.23 cr households at the start of the Mission in
August 2019 to 13 cr in 4 years.
 6 States namely Goa, Telangana, Haryana, Gujarat,
Punjab and Himachal Pradesh) and 3 UTs have reported
100% coverage.
Govt launches invoice incentive scheme to improve
tax compliance
September 1, 2023

 The government has launched the 'mera bill mera


adhikaar' scheme to promote invoice usage and offer
incentives to consumers.
 The scheme is currently implemented in Haryana,
Assam, Gujarat, and certain union territories.
 Consumers have a chance to win cash prizes ranging
from ₹10,000 to ₹1 crore by participating in the scheme.
 Invoices above ₹200 are eligible for the scheme.

 The government will launch the 'Mera Bill Mera


Adhikar' invoice incentive scheme, which offers cash
prize from ₹10,000 to ₹1 crore.

launched in the States of Assam, Gujarat and Haryana;

 Union Minister Nitin Gadkari will launch the much-


awaited Bharat New Car Assessment Programme
(Bharat NCAP) on 22 August 2023.
 The programme aims to provide a tool for car customers
to make a comparative assessment of the crash safety of
motor vehicles.
 Under this programme, car manufacturers can
voluntarily offer their cars tested as per Automotive
Industry Standard (AIS) 197.

 Union Minister for Health Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya


launched ‘Global Initiative on Digital Health, GIDH - a
WHO Managed Network’ on 19 August 2023.
 He launched in the presence of Director General, World

 The Minister also released the World Bank’s Flagship

Jan Dhan accounts cross 50 crore-mark in less than 9


years
August 18, 2023

 The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) was


launched on 28th August 2014 and it has completed
almost 9 years.
 As per the latest reports submitted by banks, the total
number of Jan Dhan accounts has crossed 50 crore as on
9th August 2023.
 Out of these accounts, 56% accounts belong to women
and 67% of accounts have been opened in Rural / Semi-
urban areas.

Cabinet approves 7 projects for Indian railways


August 15, 2023
 The Cabinet, chaired by PM Narendra Modi approved
seven multi-tracking projects targeted at Indian railways
with an outlay of Rs 32, 500 crore
 The said projects, which will be built completely on
Engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC)
mode, will add 2,339 kilometers to the existing network
of Indian Railways
 The projects will receive 100 percent funding from the
central government.

Cabinet approves outlay of Rs 14,903 crore to expand


Digital India
August 15, 2023

 Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the government's plans to


expand the Digital India program, for which it has
approved an outlay of Rs 14,903 crore for 5 years,
starting 2021-22 to 2025-26.
 Under this, 525,000 IT professionals will undergo
upskilling while 265,000 people will be trained for
cybersecurity.
 The mobile-based Umang application will get 540 more
services, up from the current 1,700.
Vishwakarma Yojana soon for artisans: PM Modi
August 15, 2023

 PM Narendra Modi, in his Independence Day address to


the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort, announced
schemes for artisans — Vishwakarma Yojana.
 An allocation of around ₹13,000cr to ₹15,000cr to be
made to help skill development among youth who are
engaged in traditional artisan works.
 He also promised drones for women self-help groups so
that it could be used for agricultural works.

PM Modi announces new scheme to help urban poor

 Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 15 announced


a new scheme to help urban poor build houses in cities.
 Under this program, they would receive relief in interest
rates and loans taken from banks to construct their
houses.
 The government already has a scheme to address the
housing shortage for the urban poor called the Pradhan
Mantri Awas Yojana Urban (PMAY-U) which was
launched in 2015.

In a first, govt plans community service as


punishment for petty crime
August 11, 2023

 The central government, for the first time in the country,


has proposed to introduce community service as one of
the punishments for “petty” offences.
 This includes for criminal defamation that cost Congress
leader Rahul Gandhi at least 130 days of his membership
of Parliament before the guilty verdict against him was
stayed by the Supreme Court on August 4.

Sedition law to be completely repealed: Amit Shah


August 10, 2023

 Union Home Minister Amit Shah informed the Lok


Sabha that the new Bill on IPC will completely repeal
the offence of sedition.
 He introduced three bills namely 'Bharatiya Nyaya
Sanhita Bill', 2023; the 'Bharatiya Sakshya Bill', 2023
and the 'Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita Bill'.
 Shah added since 1860, criminal justice system is
functioning as per laws made by the British.

LS passed CGST (Amendment) Bill, and IGST


(Amendment) Bill
August 10, 2023

 LS passed Central Goods and Services Tax


(Amendment) Bill, and Integrated Goods and Services
Tax (Amendment) Bill.
 The Central Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill,
2023 seeks to amend the Central Goods and Services
Tax Act 2017 while, the Integrated Goods and Services
Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2023 seeks to amend the
Integrated Goods and Services Tax Act 2017.

Lok Sabha passes GST Bills to levy 28% tax on e-


gaming, casinos
August 10, 2023
 Lok Sabhaapproved amendments to the Central and
Integrated GST laws to levy 28 per cent tax on the full
face value of bets in online gaming, casinos and horse
race clubs.
 The amendments pertain to insertion of a provision in
the Schedule III of the CGST Act, 2017, to provide
clarity on the taxation of supplies in casinos, horse
racing and online gaming.

Govt introduces Bills in LS to replace 3 British-era


laws
August 10, 2023

 The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, the Bharatiya


Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 and the Bharatiya
Sakshya Bill 2023 were introduced in the Lok Sabha.
 Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 will replace the Indian
Penal Code 1860 and Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha, 2023
will replace the Criminal Procedure Act, 1898.
 Bharatiya Sakshya Bill, 2023 will replace the Indian
Evidence Act, 1872.
Rajya Sabha passes Bill to expand SC list from
Chhattisgarh
August 9, 2023

 Parliament, on 9 August 2023, passed the Constitution


(Scheduled Castes) Order Amendment Bill 2023.
 The Bill amends the Constitution (Scheduled Castes)
Order 1950 to modify the list of Scheduled Castes in
Chhattisgarh.
 The Bill includes Mahara and Mahra communities as
synonyms of the Mehra, Mahar, and Mehar communities
in Chhattisgarh.

Parliament passes Anusandhan National Research


Foundation Bill, 2023
August 9, 2023

 The Anusandhan National Research Foundation Bill,


2023 passed by Parliament to establish a National
Research Foundation (NRF) to fund and promote
research in India.
 The Bill will provide high-level strategic direction for
research, innovation and entrepreneurship in the fields of
natural sciences.
 The Act will also repeal the Science and Engineering
Research Board (SERB) Act, of 2008.
Parliament passes National Nursing and Midwifery
Commission Bill, 2023
August 8, 2023

 Parliament, on 8 August 2023, passes the National


Nursing and Midwifery Commission (NNMC) Bill, 2023
for comprehensive reforms in the nursing sector.
 The Act will establish National and State Commissions
to regulate nursing education and services.
 The Act will facilitate the global mobility and
employability of Indian nurses.
 It will also encourage innovation in nursing education.

Rajya Sabha passes Inter-Services Organisation Bill,


2023
August 8, 2023

 The Inter-Services Organisation (Command, Control &


Discipline) Bill - 2023 was passed on August 8, 2023, by
the Rajya Sabha and on August 4, 2023, by the Lok
Sabha.
 The bill aims to give disciplinary and administrative
powers to the Commanders of Inter-Services
Organisations (ISOs).
 The ISO Bill-2023 shall be applicable to all personnel of
the regular Army, Navy and Air force.

MASI Portal launched for Monitoring child care

August 3, 2023

 National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has


developed an application ‘MASI’ - Monitoring App for
Seamless Inspection for real time monitoring of the
Child Care Institutions (CCIs) and their inspection
mechanism across the country.
 The Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children)
Act, 2015, makes it mandatory to establish at least one
Child Welfare Committee in each district.

'Study In India' portal launched to attract


international students
August 3, 2023
 With the vision of re-establishing India as a global hub
of education, the government launched Study in India
(SII) Portal.
 Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and
External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar jointly
launched the portal, in the presence of ambassadors from
over 10 countries.

31.14 lakhs handicraft artisans registered under


PEHCHAN Scheme
August 2, 2023

 As on 30.06.2023, 31.14 lakhs handicraft artisans have


been registered under PEHCHAN scheme across the
country to benefit of this programme.
 PEHCHAN scheme was launched in 2016 to provide
new identity to deserving handicraft artisans and help
them avail benefits of various schemes implemented by
the Ministry of Textiles.

Bill to provide fixed 50-year production lease for


offshore minerals
August 2, 2023
 A Bill to provide a fixed 50-year production lease for
offshore minerals was passed by the Rajya Sabha.
 The Bill to amend the Offshore Areas Mineral
(Development and Regulation) Act, 2002 was passed by
the Lok Sabha.
 The Bill seeks to provide a fixed 50-year production
lease for offshore minerals.

2.46 lakh farmers have been benefitted from PM-


KUSUM Scheme
August 1, 2023

 Government has said that nearly 2.46 lakh farmers have


been benefitted from the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja
Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan, PM-KUSUM
Scheme.
 The scheme provides for installation of solar pumps,
solarization of existing grid-connected agricultural
pumps and installation of grid connected renewable
power plants.
 He said, PM-KUSUM Scheme has been extended
till 31st March 2026.
Tamil Nadu Govt To Expand 'Vaasippu Iyyakam'
Project
August 1, 2023

 Tamil Nadu School Education Department is set to


extend the "Vaasipu Iyakkam" program for students of
Classes 4 to 9 across government schools in the state
from September.
 The scheme is aimed at promoting reading among
students.
 The project was inaugurated on July 21.
 Currently, the project is ongoing in 11 unions in 11
districts of the state. This is the first-of-its-kind project.

Draft of National Deep Tech Startup Policy

 The office of the PS Adviser to the Government put out


a draft National Deep Tech Startup Policy
(NDTSP) for public comment.
 The policy seeks to “ensure India’s position in the global
deep tech value chain,” in areas such as semiconductors,
Artificial Intelligence (AI), and space tech.
 The policy also seeks to find approaches to provide
financing to deep tech start-ups at critical moments.
75.51 lakh houses completed under PMAY-U
July 31, 2023

 A total of 75.51 lakh houses have been completed out of


which 71.39 lakh have been occupied till now under
the Prime Minister's Awas Yojana (PMAY-U)
 Uttar Pradesh had the largest number of houses
completed Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs
Hardip Singh Puri informed the Rajya Sabha.
 Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh were other high-performing
states at 8,80,209 and 8,08,278 houses completed.

 Jyotiraditya Scindia said the aviation sector has seen

 The Railways will take up the upgradation and

 The government has extended the unemployment


scheme, the Atal Beemit Vyakti Kalyan Yojana, under
the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation for a
period of two years up to June 30, 2024.
 It has been decided to extend the Atal Beemit Vyakti
Kalyan Yojana for the period 01.07.2022 to
30.06.2024 with the relaxed eligibility conditions and
enhanced rate of relief

Arvind Kejriwal govt announces to provide free


sugar to over 2.80 lakh
July 20, 2023
 The distribution of sugar to Antyodaya Anna Yojana
(AAY) beneficiaries will be made available free of cost.
 The Delhi Cabinet headed by Chief Minister Arvind
Kejriwal approved a proposal to provide one kg of free
sugar to over 2.80 lakh underprivileged families in the
national capital till December 2023.
 The move aims to alleviate the hardships faced by
underprivileged families.

Women-only courts for alternative dispute resolution

 The Centre is launching a unique initiative of setting up


women-only courts at the village level as an alternate
dispute resolution forum for issues like domestic
violence, property rights, and countering the patriarchal
system.
 The scheme would be launched on a pilot basis in 50
villages each in Assam and J&K
 It would be extended to the rest of the country over the
next six months.

 The government is working out a mechanism to share


data with industry and potential investors about multi-
modal connectivity as well as other physical and social
infrastructure captured on the PM Gati Shakti
platform.
 These include 20 road stretches prone to landslides and

services in states

 The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has launched a


scheme for the expansion and modernization of fire
services in the states.
 The scheme is aimed at strengthening fire services in the
states with a total outlay of Rs. 5,000 crore.
 The concerned State Governments shall have to
contribute 25% of the total cost of such
projects/proposals from their budgetary resources.

 The Union Cabinet cleared the Digital Personal Data


Protection (DPDP) Bill.
 The clearance paves the way for the Bill to be introduced
in Parliament in the upcoming Monsoon Session,
scheduled to begin on July 20.
 The data protection legislation specifies norms on
management of personal data of Indian residents and
requires explicit consent from people whose data is
collected and used.

1275 railway stations to be upgraded under Amrit

 The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri


Narendra Modi, has approved the City Investments to
Innovate, Integrate and Sustain 2.0 (CITIIS 2.0).
 The program will run for a period of four years,
i.e., from 2023 to 2027.

Naveen Patnaik govt announces new housing scheme

 On the fourth anniversary of his current five-year term,


chief minister Naveen Patnaik-led cabinet cleared a new
rural housing scheme ‘Mo Ghara’ targeting those left
out in Central and state schemes.
 The government plans to spend Rs 2,150 crore over the
next two years benefitting four lakh families under the
scheme.

Atal Bhujal Yojana water scheme extended by two


years

 Union govt has extended the Atal Bhujal Yojana (Atal


Jal) for two more years until December 2025.
 The scheme is active across 8,220 water-stressed Gram
Panchayats within 80 districts of seven Indian states.
 Atal Jal plans to bring 450,000 hectares of irrigated area
under efficient water techniques like drip irrigation and
crop diversification.

Govt to amend rules to auction lithium, rare earth


minerals

 The Indian government has announced to the auction of


newly discovered lithium and other rare earth minerals.
 The mines ministry is proposing an amendment to
mineral concession rules 2016 to determine the
methodology for fixing the value of the estimated
resources.
 The Geological Survey of India has found significant
lithium reserves totaling 5.9 million tonnes in Jammu
and Kashmir.

 The Union Cabinet also approved the National Quantum
Mission (NQM) at a total cost of over 6000 crore rupees
from 2023-24 to 2030-31.

Development of Infrastructure Facilities for the Judiciary
is revamping judicial infrastructure of District and
Subordinate Courts.
 The fund-sharing pattern under the scheme is 60:40
(Centre: State), 90:10 for 8 North-Eastern and 2
Himalayan States & 100% central funding for the UT
