Exercises E

His attitude aroused numerous, criticisms, calling him withdraw, conceited and selfish.
Many preferred to distance themselves from him and even stop greeting him. Little by
little, they began to isolate him. Meanwhile, Beethoven was a victim of his behavior,
suffering in silence the signs of disaffection.

Sullen, moody, lonely, with limited communication skills.

This is how the biographies describe the personality of Ludwig Van Beethoven, the
famous composer and pianist who brought greatness to Bonn (Germany), the city where
he was born on December 16, 250 years ago.

Exercises F

EXPRESSING AND SUPPORTING AN OPINION Discuss the questions. Activate the vocabulary to
support your opinion.
1 Why do you think all the women Beethoven asked to marry him turned him down? Do you think
they made the right decision? Because of his strong and difficult personality and because he completely
neglected his personal appearance. I think so because you wouldn't put up with someone with a bad mood
and bad appearance, although that could change, although if he didn't have the will it would be difficult.
2 Why do you think Beethoven was able to write some of his most popular pieces of music when he
could no longer hear? I think because of his incredible musical memory, his inner sense of music, and I
guess his ability to communicate with other musicians.
