Lesson:5 Sir Syed Ahmed Khan Grade:7
Source B
Q1. What does source B tell us about Sir Syed Ahmed
khan’s services for the Muslims? [5]
Source B shows a portrait of SSAK. SSAK was a great
reformer and played a vital role in improving the socio- economic status of the Muslims of British India. Alongside his image Aligarh University can also be seen. Sir Syed founded the MAO School for the collective uplift of the Indian Muslims in 1876 which turned into university in year 1920. Sir Syed played a major role in bringing a Muslim revival through his Aligarh movement which was the push to establish a modern system of western style scientific education for the backward Muslim community.
Q6.Why did Sir Syed tried to improve relations between
the Muslims and the British? Sir Syed was determined to improve the status of the Muslim community. By writing his Essay on the Causes of the Indian Revolt and The Loyal Mohammadens of India he had shown a desire to re- establish good relationships with the British, as he hoped this would lead to greater opportunities for Muslims economically and politically.
Sir Syed Ahmad Khan tried to convince people to
remain loyal to Britain because the British had brought peace to India. He felt that one of his main objects was to establish a more friendly relationship between the British and the Muslims, and thishe largely achieved.— so much that later Hindus claimed that Muslims were being unfairly given more advantages than they were. Sir Syed Ahmad Khan was rightly of the opinion that Muslims should focus on improving their education first. His viewpoint that Muslims should maintain a distance from politics and avoid confrontation with British rulers especially when they were being considered as defiant or disloyal after 1857 was not wrong. Sir Syed Ahmad Khan remained the part of British Government and tried to make all his Aligarh fellows and students realize that they should try to go in civil service and join hands with the administration rather to be offensive. This was the only way to protect the rights of the Muslim nation. Sir Syed's notion to stay in the system was very much considerable as this was the only right way to do something long-lasting for his nation.Sir Syed Ahmed Khan inspired the Muslim community of India to adopt modern education, culture and thinking to spread new consciousness., He believed that England and other Western countries had acquired their wealth and power based on extensive knowledge of the sciences and arts.
