Concrete:

Concrete is widely used material in construction using cement, water and fine aggregate(sand) or
coarse aggregate(limestone), chemical admixtures can be added for durability or design etc.
Concrete makes long lasting building structure without rust, rot or burn. Process of making one
ton of concrete produces one ton of carbon dioxide, it also reduces supply of limestone. In the
future, concrete’s lifespan will end due to no usage of it, rather than concrete itself failing because
of age. Concrete can block natural water infiltration into soil, causing pollution, erosion etc.

Steel:
Steel is made from processed iron ore, coke and limestone. Once it is made, it can be used forever
and recycled countless times. Steel can only be used , not consumed. During recycling process,
steel do not downgrade. But, maintenance costs high, and resistance against fire is relatively low
compared to concrete, yet it cannot be mold into any shape you want. Under high pressure, steel
bends instead of breaking brittle

Aluminium:
Aluminium is light, high strength and most sustainable material. It is highly resistant against
corrosion and rust. Also, aluminium is highly sustainable, when recycled, none of the physical
properties are lost and it uses only 5% of the energy to make new primary aluminium. Flexibility
of this material gives countless design options. But, strength of it is less than steel and loses its
flexibility on bolt circles.

Brick:
There are many different types of bricks. The fired bricks are one of the longest-lasting and
strongest building materials. A slightly larger brick requires less mortar and handling (fewer
bricks), which reduces cost. The weight of the brick is very light, and it is in line with the
architectural style of the University of Liverpool. Brick has a good future of sustainable
development. If it needs to be replaced, brick has many other uses, such as laying roads, making
simple models, etc.
Glass:
Glass has a long service life LED photoelectric glass is a new type of environmental protection
and energy-saving product. It is a combination of LED and glass. It has both glass permeability
and LED brightness. The wind resistance and strength of tempered glass are higher than ordinary
glass. Glass is a kind of reusable material, which can be used in other places. In particular, when
LED photoelectric glass needs to be replaced, it can be taken down and reused as a billboard.
Timber:
Wood is a good material for laying the surface of the bridge, and has a strong ability of sustainable
development, very environmental protection, can be recycled many times. The only disadvantage
of wood is that its fire resistance is not very high.
