D-04 Bridge Daily Checks at Sea
Note
2/O will carry out these noon checks daily whilst at sea (for voyages of more 24 hours) and make a log entry.
3/O to assist in completion of checks without compromising on navigation and lookout duties.
On noticing any abnormality, deficiency or doubt, immediately report to Master.
Bridge Equipment

1. General / Fire alarm operated.
2. Whistles tested on manual & auto
Note: Ensure no vessels nearby that may confuse it with a sound signal.
3. Daylight signalling lamp tested
4. Public Address System tested. Sound Reception System checked.
5. Clocks synchronised – Bridge and ECR. Master Clock System synchronised, using GPS.
6. Telegraph Data Logger – test printed, clock set to UTC.
7. Lamp / buzzer of bridge consoles tested.
8. Navigational Lights and all signal lights checked. Navigation Light Panel Failure alarm tested
9. Steering Motors changed over. Steering Gear Alarm (Buzzer and lights) tested.
10. NFU steering tested.
11. Gyro checked. Repeaters synchronised. Latitude and speed correction updated.
12. Gyro / other off-course alarms tested.
13. Magnetic compass binnacle light checked - on main and DC power.
14. Course Recorder checked and marked - noon position / date / time (UTC).
15. Speed / Distance Log counter reading noted and reset.
16. ECDIS and Radars – Visual and audible alarms tested.
17. Echo Sounder(s) checked and operational if depths below 200m.
18. AIS checked - Voyage Data updated, if required.
19. Voyage Data Recorder & BNWAS operational / no alarms.

GMDSS Equipment

1. VHF, MF, HF, DSC, NBDP tested (without radiation of signals) by means of self-test.
2. Emergency lights on the GMDSS console and equipment illumination.
Batteries (ON/OFF load test) and fully charged.
3. Note: For ‘OFF’ load, switch off AC power and read voltage. For ‘ON’ load transmit test message on battery power
and check voltage.
4. Printer(s) tested and paper checked.
SAT “C” signal level satisfactory. Navarea / message type correctly selected for warnings.
5. Note: Ensure SATC is set to receive coastal Maritime Safety Information (SafetyNET) for areas not covered by
Navtex.
6. FBB / VSAT signal level satisfactory (if fitted & as applicable).
7. GMDSS console clocks synchronised.
8. NAVTEX receiver tested. Station and message type correctly selected.
9. Weather facsimile and broadcast schedule checked.
10. Enter noon position & checks carried out in GMDSS log as per guidance note in the log.
