Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU), named after one
of the country’s greatest legal luminaries, Hon’ble Shri Justice
Mohammad Hidayatullah, was established in 2003 by the
Government of Chhattisgarh under the Hidayatullah National
University of Law, Chhattisgarh Act (No. 10 of 2003). Nestled in
the lush green surroundings of the meticulously planned city of
Nava Raipur, HNLU stands as one of the premier destinations
for legal education in the country, attracting students from all
across India.
ABOUT HNLU
The University boasts state-of-the-art academic and residential
facilities for its students, faculty, and staff. Hon’ble Mr. Justice
Aniruddha Bose, Judge, Supreme Court of India is the Visitor,
Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ramesh Sinha, Chief Justice, High Court of
Chhattisgarh is the Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) V.C. Vivekanandan is
the Vice-Chancellor, and Dr. Vipan Kumar is the Registrar (I/c) of
the University.

Embodying its motto, ‘Dharma Sansthapanartham,’ which


translates to ‘for the sake of establishing the primacy of the laws
of eternal values,’ HNLU is committed to imparting quality legal
education. It actively engages in teaching and research and
aims to foster in its students a deep sense of responsibility to
serve society in the realm of law, emphasizing advocacy and
legal reforms. As HNLU celebrates its 20th year of ‘Excellence in
Legal Education’ in 2023, it remains poised to reach even
greater heights in its commitment to and contribution towards
legal education.

HNLU is the sixth in the series of National Law Schools across


India. The University is on the list maintained by the University
Grants Commission under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956, and
has been deemed eligible to receive Central assistance as per
the rules outlined in Section 12 (B) of the UGC Act, 1956. Further,
the university is recognized by the Bar Council of India under
Section 7 of the Advocates Act, 1961. Notably, HNLU ranked 5th
among the National Law Schools in the India Today Rankings
for 2021, 2022, and 2023. It also achieved a rank of 51-100 in crisis
management during COVID in the World’s Universities with
Real Impact (WURI) Rankings for 2021 and 2022, and placed
between 201-300 among innovative and emerging Universities
by WURI. The institution is geared up to set new benchmarks in
the upcoming years.

UNIVERSITY
INFRASTRUCTURE

HNLU is a fully residential university located in Naya Raipur,


Chhattisgarh, India. The campus spans across 70 acres and
features a curricular-cum-administrative building designed
to resemble the Parliament of India. The building houses an
auditorium, conference halls, classrooms, moot court
complexes, a library, a computer lab, and a unique language
lab. The Amphitheatre at its centre is a semblance of
Athenian architecture and is tastefully used for cultural
activities and common gatherings.

The campus also has separate hostels for girls and boys,
faculty and staff quarters, and a guest house. It is fully Wi-Fi-
enabled and equipped with all the modern state-of-the-art
amenities, making HNLU a complete destination for living
and learning.

LIBRARY
The library of HNLU is considered as a laboratory of a
scientific institute, where the apparatus for the law students
are the classic law books, case law reports, and journals that
are available in full sets. One of the special features of the
Library is the Hidayatullah Collection, which is a collection of
books donated from the personal collection of Justice
Mohammad Hidayatullah.

MOOT COURT HALLS


HNLU is one of the very few universities in India to include
moot court exercises as a compulsory part of every legal
subject. The University has five Moot Court halls which are
used by students for Benchmark Rounds and intra-university
Challengers and can be seen in their complete glory during
the Justice Hidayatullah Memorial International Moot Court
Competition.

SMART CLASSROOMS
The classrooms are equipped with smart class connections,
display boards, aesthetic furnishing and projectors.
Additionally, a high-speed broadband connection facilitates
easy access to any required information. In such hi-tech
classrooms, it becomes easy for the faculty to derive even the
most complex and technical concepts from easy illustrations,
presentations and online resources.

COMPUTER LAB
The University has a fully air-conditioned Computer Lab with a sufficiently large number of desktop,
computers with internet connectivity and access to all . Since project presentation is a part of every subject
taught at HNLU, students find the Computer Lab extremely useful for preparing their project reports and
memorials for moot court exercises.

RECREATION GROUNDS
Believing in the philosophy of “A healthy mind in a healthy body”, HNLU boasts a state-of-the-art gymnasium
in the central hostels with indoor badminton courts and a table tennis facility at both boys and girls hostel
complexes. Outdoor facilities include a cricket ground, a lawn tennis court, two basketball courts and one
volleyball court, respectively. Adequate facilities are available for other sporting activities as well.

LIFE AT HNLU
Life at HNLU is filled with enriching learning experiences that go beyond

HIDAYATULLAH INTERNATIONAL MOOT COURT COMPETITION (HIMCC)

Hidayatullah National Moot Court Competition (HNMCC) was started as a part of


the centenary celebrations of the eminent jurist, author, and linguist, Justice
Mohammad Hidayatullah & over the course of a decade, HNMCC has established
a reputation among the legal fraternity, of being one of India’s premier moot
court competitions. The University is set to host the first international edition of
the flagship event in March 2024 on the theme of Competition Law.

HNLU IMUNC

HNLU International Model United Nations Conference aims to provide a platform


to students around the globe to enable them to debate and engage with
different voices. It is an attempt to provide an opportunity for young students to
engage in a simulation of international diplomacy in order to form a well-
rounded and informed perspective on contemporary issues.

EX ARCA

‘Ex Arca’ is a blended platform of Online and Offline dissemination of the


interface of Arts & Humanities, Social Sciences, Science & Technology, and
Management with Law with a purpose to support and supplement the
understanding of law students going beyond the classroom discourses and
develop an understanding of industry requirements thereby bridging the
knowledge gap between the theory and practice of law.

HNLU HEXA – HNLU EXCHANGE ACADEMY

HNLU Exchange Academy (HEXA) includes exchange programmes with legal and
public policy institutes from all four continents of Asia-Africa, Europe, north
America, and South America for faculty/student exchange and collaborative
research.

LEX OSMOSE

The Lex Osmose program is designed as customized credit courses offered by


external faculties composed of Legal Professionals, Academics, Policy tanks, and
Civil Society enthusiasts. In its last concluded phase, courses in areas such as
Foreign Investment and Securities Laws, International Arbitration Law,
Intellectual Property Rights, Legal Entrepreneurship, GST Law, etc. were offered
to the students.

HNLU CLAT OUTREACH PROGRAMME:

HNLU CLAT Outreach Programme targets the students of Class XI and Class XII,
the prospective student group appearing for the Common Law Admission Test
(CLAT) and aims to educate the students about Law as a lucrative career
option, more particularly on the pattern of Common Law Admission Test (CLAT)
and the diverse career avenues attached to the same.

THE MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME (TMP):

The Mentorship Programme aims to provide academic, extra-curricular, co-


curricular and overall guidance to the first year batch of HNLU every year. It
helps the students navigate their way through the first year of law school and
learn the skill sets required to become a good law professional.

HNLU PRESS:

HNLU Press is the publication division of the University that publishes and
disseminates print/electronic and multimedia content. It aims to scale up the
existing publication efforts apart from launching new initiatives in the field of
Law and other disciplines interfacing Law. The platform aims not only to publish
legal research articles from established contributors but to encourage young
talents to contribute.

COLOSSUS:

Colossus is the flagship extra-curricular event held annually boasting a score of


cultural and sporting events to encourage participation in such events among
the students. The fest has grown bigger each year since its inception, boasting
a multitude of events, performance and participation.

NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON EMPOWERING INDIA’S ENERGY FUTURE NAVIGATING
THE LEGAL LANDSCAPE:

Kluwer and Chhattisgarh State Electricity Regulatory Commission organized a
National Conference on Empowering India’s Energy Future Navigating the Legal
Landscape.

The HNLU Career Development Conclave aimed to bring the stakeholders


together to unfold the career prospects for the students and invited experts to

consisted of sessions from professionals across the vivid spectrum of law,

The Alumni Affairs Committee of HNLU-SBA has hosted the first-ever physical
alumni meet, R.O.O.T.S: Revisiting Our Old Times and Stories, in February 2024.
The annual alumni reunion seeks enable a platform for rekindling old
friendships, maintaining professional networks and forging new relationships.

The HNLU Alum Connect Podcast series is a comprehensive series on various


aspects of a law student’s life wherein, HNLU alumnus is engaged by the
students, for the students, with a sole view to ease out the process for current
law students to achieve whatever they desire to achieve by learning from the
experiences of the ones who have achieved it already. This podcast aims to
bring the combined experience of the entire HNLU alumnus under a single
platform where alumni can share their academic and professional journey from
Law School to where they are right now.

Sui Generis is the faculty seminar series that aims to highlight the scholarly
contributions and ongoing research undertaken by the faculty at the University.
Engaging sessions on contemporaneous and seminal legal issues are hosted by
the faculty and followed by an interactive session with the participants.

Alma Matters is a digital initiative to connect with distinguished alumni of HNLU


to celebrate and disseminate their contributions to the legal fraternity and
society at large. The objective behind the initiative is to invite, honour and get

HNLU ACADEMIC ASSISTANCE AND INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME (HAAI):

HNLU launched the programme in January 2023 with the objective to provide
the students with an opportunity to learn beyond classrooms. It has three
components i.e., Teaching Assistance, Research Assistance, and Internship. The
purpose of this structured academic assistance and internship programme was
to involve students in academic activities and internship with a full-time faculty
member at HNLU thereby fostering a hands-on experience for the students.

ON 75 YEARS OF MULTILATERAL TRADING SYSTEM: PAST, PRESENT & FUTURE
DISCOURSE

In commemoration of the 75th year of the multilateral trading system (MTS),


this Programme was organized from 1 December – 9 December 2023 to provide
an opportunity to understand and explore the nuances of the MTS. It aimed at
bringing together experts, policymakers, academics, practitioners, researchers,
and students from around the world to discuss and analyze the role of the
multilateral trading system in shaping international trade, its achievements,
challenges, and the way forward.

CLASS OF 2025

The first batch of HNLU graduated in 2008. The Class of 2025 is entrusted with the
formidable responsibility of establishing their own value while continuing the legacy
established by preceding graduating classes from 2008 to the present day, 2024.

The cohort consists of students selected from various regions across the nation,
fostering an intellectually stimulating and captivating academic setting while also
cultivating the values of harmonious cohabitation among fellow students. Among the
many attributes that distinguish the class, their dedication to maintaining the integrity
of the vocation they have selected is the most conspicuous.

The professions pursued by the graduating class are extremely varied, spanning from
judicial clerkships in the Hon’ble Courts in India to internships at pre-eminent law firms.
However, since integrity and perseverance are the unifying principles that transcend all
professions, they bond students in their pursuits.

The university has played a pivotal role in fostering the students' professional
development and personal enlightenment over the glorious course of the past years.
As the students approach their final year at HNLU, they express gratitude to both the
institution and their peers for their collective influence in moulding them into
responsible and unique individuals.

We sincerely hope that these attributes of their cohort will be communicated to you.

RECRUITMENT PROCESS
Pre-placement talks:
Recruiters are encouraged to conduct Pre-
Placement Talks (PPT) for interested students

in the University giving important information
such as the profile of the organization, career
prospects, compensation packages, etc.
These PPTs can be conducted at any time
before the Pre-Interview Screening.

Pre-Interview Screening Process:


Recruiters can conduct a Pre-Interview
Screening Process including group discussions
any time before the interview day. Recruiters

are free to determine their own policy for the
Screening Process to shortlist students. In case
the Recruiter has no particular method of Pre-
Interview Screening, the curriculum vitae of all
interested students shall be forwarded to the
Recruiter.

Final Interview:
The Recruiter shall formulate a Final Interview
List subsequent to the completion of the Pre-
Interview Screening Process and the same shall
be communicated to the RCC at least 48 (forty-
eight) hours prior to the interview along with
the list of the Waitlisted candidates.

3 In case any Applicant who is selected in the Final


Interview List is not available for the interview then
the Recruiter can interview the Waitlisted
candidates instead, if the Recruiter considers it
appropriate. In case the Recruiter has no procedure
for Pre-Interview Screening, the list of interested
students shall automatically become the Final
Interview list.

Disclosure of Offers:
The results will be declared simultaneously by
the RCC at the end of the day to ensure that no
Recruiter is prejudiced. The Recruiters will be

4 required to disclose the results of their Final


Interviews and any Offer made to the
Applicant(s) only through the RCC which will be
communicated in a sealed envelope.

RECRUITMENT
COORDINATION COMMITTEE
The Recruitment Coordination Committee is the student body officially designated
with the responsibility of facilitating the procedure of recruitment for the graduating
Class of 2025. The purpose of establishing the RCC is to create a framework within
which the representatives of various organizations in the legal industry can interact
with the students of the batch for the purpose of recruitment. The Committee,
governed by its own Constitution, comprises a group of seven students who have
been elected by the Class democratically, through the process of secret ballot voting.

This Brochure constitutes an official invitation to all prospective Recruiters, to take


part in the placement proceedings happening at the University, beginning in the month
of April 2025.
