Content 1: The definition of the stamping process

 What is the stamping & punch process?

 What is the role of stamping in industrial
manufacturing?
 Which products can be made by stamping?
 What is the stamping die?
1.1 An Experience like stamping process in daily life

1.2 Other things like stamping process in life?

 Cutting the vegetables in the kitchen.

 Cutting branches with garden tool.
 Men repair their beard in the morning.
 Lady mend the clothes with a needle.

Is there anything else? Please add! There's a lot of

punching and stamping things in everyday life.
1.3 Have you ever used punching products?
Soft-drink
 Stamping process is more used in cans
manufacturing industry.
 These products or parts are manufactured by
stamping process.
 What material is it made of?

used.
1.5 Mobile covering parts and small sheet metal

 The stamping die is installed on the working table of the puncher machine, and the
operator sends the strip into the entrance of the stamping die.
 Stamping dies have a common feature. They all work at room temperature and do
not need heating, not like casting mould, plastic mould and forge mould.
1.7.2 Stamping mold and production

 The lower mold is not moving, and the
upper mold stamping the strip under the
action of the stamping machine.
 The strip is fed and punched step by step on
the lower mold and finally the product is
formed.
1.8 The principle and mechanism of stamping
When the load is not large, the material
is Elastic Deformation, and the
deformation is restored when the load
is removed.

Plastic Deformation occurs when the

stress exceeds the yield strength of the
material.

When the load is large, and the stress

exceeds the tensile strength limit of
the material, Fracture Separating
occurs.

 Why can stamping process make products? What is the mechanism of the
working process?
 This is the stress-strain diagram of the sheet metal under applying load.
1.9 Summing up the elements of stamping process

 Processing objects:Sheet metal & stamping parts.

 Mechanism of stamping : Various types of plastic
deformation or separating in the stamping stage.
 Processing machine:Punch & press machine.
 Technologic equipment:Stamping die/Puncher mold.
 Stamping die:A special equipment be used to process
material into stamping parts .
1.10 Summing up the material of cold stamping
 Heating Treatment status: Hot-rolled sheet and cold-rolled sheet.
 Material types: Low-carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, copper,

1.11 Question and Answer
 What is Stamping Process and what is Stamping Die?

 Under normal temperature processing conditions,

the process of plastic deformation or separation of

raw materials is done by means of punching dies.
 Stamping die is a process equipment for punching
raw materials into sheet metal products, also referred
to as cold punching dies.
Content 2: Classification of stamping process

 What is the mechanical manufacturing process?

 What is a process?
 What is stamping and punch process?
 How to classify the stamping process?

 According to the above understanding, there are three results of

deformed, which are elastic, plastic and separating.
 The stamping process takes advantage of the last two results.
 There are two corresponding stamping processes, namely separation
and (plastic) deforming.
2.1 Separating of stamping process

Sheet metal

by separation
process.

 A process of separating a sheet from a closed or open contour.

 Include sub-process:piercing, blanking, trimming, shaving, etc.

 Product(part) is cut along with closed profile by punch.

 The rest of sheet is scrap/waste,which fell from the concave die.
The shape of the hole can be round, noncircular or otherwise.

Concave die

There are various hole shapes in production, corresponding punch and die, their
cross-stections also have various shapes, such as round, square, etc.
2.1.2 Separating — blanking (落料)

 Positioning plate
 Blank holder
 Stripper plate Concave die

 The second separation process is called blanking, and its working principle is
similar to piercing.
 But compare with the piercing mold, the difference is, the finished product
punched down, and the scrap left on the concave die.

rotating magnetic field when motor is powered.

 From the point of the combination of process, it can be

classified into single die( single process、single position),
compound die(multi-processes、single position) and
progressive die( multi-processes、multi-positions).
