LEARNING PLAN IN READING AND PHONICS 2 – 4TH Quarter


Session 1: February 28, 2023 Sections:

SUBJECT MATTER: The Princess and The Pea – p.199


OBJECTIVES: Students will be able to…
1. identify the meaning of the words through context clues
2. validate ideas from the story
3. retell the events from the story
4. explain the moral lesson of the story

A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITY
1. Class Brainstorming. Recall the Rhyming Words. The pupils will choose
words that rhymes from the poem.

2. Ask the pupils, what are rhyming words?


 How do we know if they are rhyming words?
 Give an example of a word that rhymes with
each other.

B. DEVELOPMENT OF THE LESSON


1. Motivation. Ask the pupils, what can they see on the picture?
 How do you define a princess?
 Do you want to be a princess or a
prince?
 What does it take to be called as
a princess or a prince?

2. Presentation. Let the pupils have an activity regarding beginning letters of


objects or pictures in the story to be read.

3. Unlocking of Difficulties. Match the word with the meaning by the help of
sentences. The teacher may also ask the pupils to give their own sentence.

4. The teacher will give at least 5-10 minutes to read the story.

5. Class Agreement. The teacher will be posting some statement from the story.
If they agree with the statement, they will send or show a THUMBS UP
REACTION in the Zoom. And THUMBS DOWN REACTION, if they disagree.
 There was a prince who wanted to celebrate a birthday.
 The prince travelled around the world to find his princess.
6. Have a discussion of the story in the form of Roll Call. Present the questions in
the powerpoint.
1. What is the title of the story?
2. Who was looking for a wife?
3. How did they discover that the lady is a real princess?
4. What is the moral lesson of the story? (Do not judge people based on their
appearance)
As a Jamer, how will you show to your transferee classmate that Jamers
are friendly?

7. Let the pupils retell the story by asking them, what happened first, second, and
so on.

C. ASSESSMENT
Answer RT – pg. 202-203 – Word Attack and pg. 204 – Think Alongs

D. SYNTHESIS
Create a hashtag to sum up your learnings from today’s discussion.

OBJECTIVES: Students will be able to…
1. Identify the next situation or outcome in the situation

A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITY
1. Review. Recall the story “The Princess and The Pea”, the pupils will answer
the questions.
1. What is the title of the story?
2. Who was looking for a wife?
3. How did they discover that the lady is a real princess?

2. What did you learn from the story?

3. Motivation. Ask the pupils, to look outside. How’s the weather? What do you
think will be the weather in 2 hours? How do you say so?

B. DEVELOPMENT OF THE LESSON


1. Presentation. Class Brainstorming. Let them read the situation from the story.

 Ask them, what would be the next thing to happen?


A. The king will not listen to her.
B. The king will allow her to stay.
C. The kind will not do anything.
*The answer is B.
 Ask them, what is the quality of the king?
Is it important that we help someone in times of trouble? Why?
As a Jamer, how will you show your generosity in school?
 Say that today we will be guessing the event that will happen after each
situation.

2. Discuss Predicting Outcome. The teacher will discuss the topic. Present
different pictures and let the pupils guess what will be the next thing to happen in
each situation. Example:

Point the idea –


Predicting Outcome – making a smart guess or something you think is going to
happen next in a story.
Making predictions can help in understanding the story
better.

1. Presentation. The pupils will read the poem.

The Little, Little Man

In a big, big city,


Lived a little, little man,
In his hot, hot house,
With a fast, fast fan.

He had funny, funny childrens,


And a pretty, pretty wife.
They would laugh laugh laugh
What a good, good life!

They would run around the house.


They would say jokes and rhymes.
They would jump up and down,
And have happy, happy times.

Do you know this little man?

Oh, whoever could he be?


Why, that little, little man
Is just silly, silly me!

Ask the pupils, What word describe the city?


 How about the man?
 Where does he live?
 What kind of children he has?
 How would you describe his family?
 What things do you enjoy with your family? Is it important that we
spend quality time with them? Valuing.

2. Discuss Synonyms. The pupil will identify the words from the poem with the
same meaning with the words in the powerpoint.
Example:
huge – big
little – small, tiny
fast – quick
funny – silly

Point the idea –


Synonyms –a word or phrase that means exactly or nearly the same as another
word or phrase in the same language.
3. Let the pupils give a word that has the same meaning of the given words from
the story, “The Sun, and the Moon”.
angry – mad
ugly – unattractive
gigantic – huge
