Fluid Analysis Methods

This document describes different methods for analyzing crude oil and reservoir fluids, including determination of relative density, vapor pressure, and water and sediment content. It also explains PVT analysis, which provides data on the behavior of fluids under variations in pressure, temperature and volume to predict their behavior and optimize production. Finally, it concludes by highlighting the importance of these analyzes to avoid errors that could affect the development of the field.

DRIVING AND HANDLING OF HYDROCARBONS.

ASSIGNMENT: 08/08/17 #1 *CONCEPTS*.

1.2 FLUID ANALYSIS METHODS:

ANALYSIS OF CRUDE OIL:
Determination of relative density: relative density is defined as the relationship between the specific
weight of a substance and that of water (γ= 1.0). It is generally measured under standard
conditions, that is, at a temperature of 15.5 0C and 1 atmosphere of pressure.
DETERMINATION OF VAPOR PRESSURE:
When liquids evaporate, the molecules released in this action exert a partial pressure in space,
known as vapor pressure. If the space above the free liquid surface is limited, then, after a certain
time, the number of vapor molecules that collide with the liquid surface and condense becomes
equal to the number of molecules that escape from the surface. in a given time interval,
establishing equilibrium.
ANALYSIS OF WATER AND SEDIMENT CONTENT:
Centrifuge Method: It consists of filling two graduated tubes (conical or spherical knobs) up to the
50% mark, with a solvent (Benzol, Toluene, White Gasoline) and adding the sample to be analyzed
up to the 100% mark, shaking them until mix well, then place them in the centrifuge and centrifuge
at a speed of 1500 rpm. For a time that varies between 3 and 10 minutes, depending on the
characteristics of the mixture.

1.3 PVT ANALYSIS:

The production of oil and natural gas undoubtedly constitutes the engine of the world economy.
The growing activity of the oil industry forces us to have data on representative fluids to avoid
erroneous criteria in the characterization of fluids that could affect the development of fields and
even the creation of plants.
PVT studies are carried out with the purpose of analyzing the deposits, and based on the results of
these studies, determining the various parameters and methodologies that will be developed to put
the deposit into production. Fluid sampling is carried out at the beginning of the productive life of
the reservoir.
The new tools and equipment available for automated and computerized management make
carrying out the studies more feasible. Once the state of the fluid present in the reservoir is
determined through experimental studies for reservoir fluids (PVT), all the information about their
behavior based on pressure variations is collected and studied. , temperature and volume.

This becomes of vital importance for the productive life of the reservoir since if we can predict what
the behavior of the fluid will be like, we look for a way to maintain the energy of the well, thus
obtaining greater production. Producing in an inefficient manner can be avoided, extending the life
of the reservoir by maintaining pressures. When PVT tests are analyzed, there is a percentage of
these tests that turn out to be not useful because there could be contamination of the containers

CONCLUSION:
In conclusion, two topics of great importance in this unit are understood: fluid analysis methods and
PVT analysis. In the fluid analysis method it tells us about the analysis that is done to the crude oil,
such as in this case its temperature. While in the PVT analysis, it is mostly representative data to
avoid errors since this can affect the development of the fields or also the creation of plants.
