INTRODUCTION

Global warming refers to the long-term increase in Earth’s average surface temperature due to human activities that
release heat-trapping gases into the atmosphere. This phenomenon is primarily driven by the burning of fossil fuels,
such as coal, oil, and gas, which emit greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and methane. These gases trap heat from
the sun in the Earth’s atmosphere, leading to a gradual rise in temperatures.

Historical Trends
The Industrial Revolution marked the beginning of significant global warming trends. Since 1880, the
Earth’s average temperature has increased by approximately 1 degree Celsius (2 degrees
Fahrenheit). The rate of temperature rise has accelerated over time; between 1880 and 1981,
temperatures rose by 0.07 degrees Celsius (0.13 Fahrenheit) every decade. However, since 1981, this
rate has doubled, with temperatures increasing by around 0.18 degrees Celsius (0.32 Fahrenheit) per
decade.
Recent Climate Data
In recent years, global warming has become more pronounced, with nine out of
the ten warmest years on record occurring since 2005 and five of them since
2015. This trend underscores the ongoing impact of human-induced climate
change on our planet.

CAUSES
Global warming is primarily caused by the
increase in greenhouse gases in the Earth’s
Carbon Dioxide (CO2):
atmosphere. These gases are
Methane (CH4):
Nitrous Oxide (N2O):
Water Vapor:
Synthetic Fluorinated Gases:
Causes of Global Warming
The primary cause of global warming is the release of
greenhouse gases into the atmosphere through human
activities. Fossil fuel combustion is the largest source of
these emissions, accounting for a significant portion of
global greenhouse gas output. Other sources include
transportation (29%), electricity generation (28%), and
industrial activities (22%).

Human activities such as burning fossil fuels, deforestation,

intensive agriculture practices, and industrial processes are the
primary drivers behind the increase in greenhouse gas
concentrations that cause global warming.

Effect of Global Warming
Human-induced climate change is causing significant impacts on ecosystems and
communities today, including rising global temperatures, sea level rise, drought, flooding,
and extreme weather events. These changes are interconnected and can have far-reaching
consequences for human health, agriculture, energy production, transportation, and
infrastructure.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

(NOAA), global temperatures have risen by 1.98°F from 1901 to 2020. This
increase has led to a variety of impacts, including sea level rise, more
frequent and intense droughts and flooding events, and more extreme
weather conditions. For example, in the Western United States, higher air
temperatures are leading to dwindling water supplies and increased risks of
wildfires.
The changing climate is also affecting human health in various
ways. For instance, drought can lead to food shortages and
increased food prices, which can limit access to healthy food
options for vulnerable populations. Flooding can lead to the
spread of diseases such as cholera and malaria. Extreme heat
can cause heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and
heatstroke.
To mitigate the worst effects of climate change, it is
important to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through
various means such as renewable energy sources and
energy efficiency measures.
Prevention of
Global
Warming
Global warming, caused primarily by the release of greenhouse gases
like carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, is a pressing issue that
requires immediate action to prevent further damage to the planet.
There are several effective strategies and actions that individuals,
communities, governments, and businesses can take to mitigate and
prevent global warming:

Reduce Carbon Emissions:
One of the most crucial steps in preventing global warming is to reduce
carbon emissions. This can be achieved through various means such as
transitioning to renewable energy sources like wind and solar power,
limiting the use of fossil fuels, and promoting energy efficiency in
homes and buildings.

•Individuals can contribute by reducing their carbon

footprint through actions like driving less, carpooling, using
public transportation, and supporting clean energy
initiatives.

•Businesses can implement sustainable practices, invest in

renewable energy solutions, and adopt energy-efficient
technologies to lower their carbon emissions.

Promote Energy Efficiency:
Improving energy efficiency is key to reducing greenhouse gas
emissions. This can be done by weatherizing buildings to make
them more energy-efficient, using energy-efficient appliances, and
upgrading heating and cooling systems.

•Investing in energy-efficient technologies not only helps in

reducing carbon emissions but also leads to cost savings for
individuals and businesses in the long run.
. Support Sustainable Practices
Embracing sustainable practices such as recycling,
composting organic waste, reducing water waste,
and supporting local businesses that prioritize
environmental responsibility can all contribute to
preventing global warming.

• Sustainable agriculture practices that focus

on soil health and reducing greenhouse gas
emissions from food production also play a
significant role in mitigating climate
change.

Transition to Renewable Energy Sources
One of the most effective solutions to combat global warming is
transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources such as solar,
wind, and hydropower. These sources do not produce greenhouse gases like
carbon dioxide and are considered cleaner alternatives to traditional fossil
fuels.

Reforestation and Forest Conservation

Trees play a crucial role in absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
Therefore, initiatives focused on reforestation, afforestation, and forest
conservation can help mitigate global warming by acting as carbon sinks.
Energy Efficiency Improvements
Improving energy efficiency in various sectors such as transportation, buildings, and
industries can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This can be achieved
through better insulation in buildings, using energy-efficient appliances, and
promoting sustainable practices in industries.

Sustainable Agriculture Practices

Implementing sustainable agriculture practices that reduce emissions from
livestock farming, minimize deforestation for agricultural purposes, and promote
organic farming methods can contribute to lowering overall greenhouse gas
emissions.
CONCLUSION
Global warming poses a significant threat to our environment and society
as a whole. By understanding its causes and impacts and implementing
mitigation strategies at both individual and collective levels, we can work
towards limiting further temperature increases and safeguarding the
future of our planet.

In conclusion, global warming is a pressing issue that requires immediate action at

individual, local, national, and international levels. The continued emission of
greenhouse gases poses significant risks to our planet’s climate systems and
ecosystems. While some degree of climate change is inevitable due to past emissions
already present in the atmosphere, it is crucial to limit future emissions to prevent
further escalation of global temperatures. By choosing sustainable practices and
adopting mitigation strategies now, we can work towards safeguarding the environment
for current and future generations.
