Global warming refers to the long-term increase in Earth’s average surface temperature due to human activities that
release heat-trapping gases into the atmosphere. This phenomenon is primarily driven by the burning of fossil fuels,
such as coal, oil, and gas, which emit greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and methane. These gases trap heat from
the sun in the Earth’s atmosphere, leading to a gradual rise in temperatures.
Historical Trends
The Industrial Revolution marked the beginning of significant global warming trends. Since 1880, the
Earth’s average temperature has increased by approximately 1 degree Celsius (2 degrees
Fahrenheit). The rate of temperature rise has accelerated over time; between 1880 and 1981,
temperatures rose by 0.07 degrees Celsius (0.13 Fahrenheit) every decade. However, since 1981, this
rate has doubled, with temperatures increasing by around 0.18 degrees Celsius (0.32 Fahrenheit) per
decade.
Recent Climate Data
In recent years, global warming has become more pronounced, with nine out of
the ten warmest years on record occurring since 2005 and five of them since
2015. This trend underscores the ongoing impact of human-induced climate
change on our planet.

CAUSES
Global warming is primarily caused by the
increase in greenhouse gases in the Earth’s
Carbon Dioxide (CO2):
atmosphere. These gases are

Causes of Global Warming
The primary cause of global warming is the release of
greenhouse gases into the atmosphere through human
activities. Fossil fuel combustion is the largest source of
these emissions, accounting for a significant portion of
global greenhouse gas output. Other sources include
transportation (29%), electricity generation (28%), and
industrial activities (22%).

Transition to Renewable Energy Sources
One of the most effective solutions to combat global warming is
transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources such as solar,
wind, and hydropower. These sources do not produce greenhouse gases like
carbon dioxide and are considered cleaner alternatives to traditional fossil
fuels.
