Generally, social media is used by teenagers to talk about their lives, as well as
to share their daily activities. They also show their presence on social networks by
saying where they go or the places they like to visit. However, not all teenagers are
like that, as many teenagers use social networks to criticize, discuss, or find new
business opportunities. Teenagers today grow up in the internet age. But will this
affect them when they become adults? Through social networks, people can
communicate with each other even if they are far apart. They can share their private
data, phone numbers, addresses, even family data, and other things that should not be
exposed. Anyone can get acquainted immediately, even without knowing their
background. Worse still, various understandings can easily enter teenagers if there is
no strong filter in their lives.
There are many examples in society. The use of social networks usually leads
to meetings. If we compare, 3 out of 10 will experience stress or inappropriate
behavior. Moreover, their behavior also changes in real life, the nicknames and names
used by teenagers can lead to personality duplication. Personality changes will occur
according to their desires in attitude, depending on who they are talking to. Crimes
occur due to too much information shared on social media. Addresses, phone
numbers, photos, all are displayed in the profile column without any restrictions on
viewing all this information. A teenager in America was robbed at home just because
they wrote a status on social media, "Home alone, parents out of town."
We cannot blame social media because it all goes back to the user. Social
networks may also prove to be lifesavers. There are 7 cases where social media has
saved lives. One example is a case of a teenager trying to commit suicide, "In the
spring of 2009, a British teenager wrote on social media to a friend that he was going
to commit suicide. His girlfriend and mother were immediately informed. His mother
then called the local police, who sent a team so the teenager failed to commit suicide."
This shows that the presence of social media is very influential, both positively
and negatively for teenagers. However, the social environment is very influential on
the development and behavior of individuals. So, social networks are dangerous for
some teenagers but not for others, it all depends on the teenager's personality.
4) What is the implied risk mentioned in the text when teenagers share too much
information on social media?
A. They might lose their friends
B. They could become famous
C. They might face privacy and safety issues
D. They could get better job opportunities
Bullying
Bullying in schools is a serious issue that many people are concerned
about. Teachers, parents, and the government know that bullying can harm
students' mental health and academic performance. Some believe that bullying
is not just an individual's problem but also shows that the school environment
is not supportive. A school environment that allows violence and lacks proper
supervision can lead to bullying.
However, there is still debate about the best way to prevent and handle
bullying. Some people believe that giving strict punishments to bullies can be
effective in deterring bullying and protecting victims. Others think that a
restorative approach, which focuses on repairing relationships and providing
psychological support to both victims and bullies, is more appropriate and
long-lasting.
9) What does the text suggest is necessary to create a more supportive school
environment?
A. Involving only the teachers in anti-bullying efforts
B. Involving the whole school community, including teachers, staff, and parents
C. Ignoring the role of the community in preventing bullying
D. Focusing only on academic development
