ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
The success and final outcome of this project required a lot of guidance and assistance from
many people and we are extremely privileged to have got this all along the completion of our
project. All that we have done is only because of such supervision and assistance and we would
not forget to thank them.

We are deeply grateful to Dr Mohan Babu G.N, Principal of BMS institute of technology
providing us with an opportunity to do the project work which made us complete the project
duly.

We owe our deepest gratitude to our project guide Mr. Thyagaraj Tanjavur, who took keen
interest in our project work and guided us all along, till the completion of our project work by
providing all the necessary information for the successful completion of the project.

We are also thankful and fortunate enough to have got constant encouragement, support and
guidance from all teaching staff which helped us in completion of the project.
ABSTRACT

The basic outline of our project is based on helping people chose the
right outfits for the right occasions without wastage of time. The
whole problem starts from too many choices and continuously
changing fashion trends. The basic idea is to provide styling ideas
with one’s own existing wardrobe and to encourage people to try on
new trends without any fear of judgements. We plan on doing so by
approaching the problem in an innovative way using the techniques
of Design Thinking and Innovation.

BACKGROUND
Fashion trends come and go; meanwhile a society’s values are established and
evolving characteristic to their beliefs and culture. Fashion is just not an
ambitious projected image of a reinterpreted good old value to fulfil some
function or agenda alike but rather a evocative and refreshing concept worthy
enough to be portrayed for society’s appreciation that makes us even
more instinctive. In the society, the individual’s appearance is the ticket to
transmit nonverbal communication signals such as possible cues about his / her
social stature, values and lifestyle. Fashion communication has under gone a
360-degree shift in its communicable aspects staring
from projecting a basic image of how we look like and how we feel like to
expressing us emotional experiences through interactive implements in the
dress. The success of the fashion trend lies in the way the society interprets the
fashion trend and judges it. Hence the impact is measured by the barometer of
social acceptance which in turn is driven by the several motivational forces that
underline the people’s values and behavioural traits. Today’s consumer culture
is driven by aspirationalism that diminishes the gap between the rich and
economically volatile sections when it comes to accepting and adopting a trend.
A classic example is, a consumer in China saves her three months’ salary to
purchase a LVMH hand bag. Further It does not stop here as the people’s cash
liquidity is extended by the easy provision of personal loans facilitated by both
private and nationalized banks alike. This is even extended by few Brands’
initiatives to offer fashion products on a credit basis with easy monthly part
payment options.
INTRODUCTION

Clothing is dressed to be symbolic of working women success in life and social

position. Down through the ages women have taken pride in their personal
appearance and have sought the beautification of self through ornamentation.
There was a time in India when only typical Indian dresses were worn.
The selection of clothing was limited to special occasion like marriage
and religious function. In the present society, a woman leads a more active life.
She moves with man in all walks of life and now there is hardly any field, which
can be called man's exclusive domain. Now there is countless profession in which
Indian women have entered, some of the professions are uniform based while
some are non-uniform based like private corporate, advertising agency, interior
design firm, boutiques and colleges etc. At these places the employees have to
dress in a manner that will inspire their confidence (Kefgan & Specht, 1979).
According to Syber & Roach (1962) clothing behaviour is related to social
mobility if one failed to dress up as expected the occupational mobility is affected
adversely. As the working woman meets lot of people, she must have greater
variety of clothes and accessories. The working women require clothes that are
suitable, practical in nature, comfortable and business like in appearance. Clothes
not only help to achieve the success she desires but also gives her poise,
confidence and also self-identification.
