LAB 3: WORD PROCESSOR

Introduction
A word processor is a software or a device that allows users to create, edit, and print documents.
It enables you to write text, store it electronically, display it on a screen, modify it by entering
commands and characters from the keyboard, and print it. Word processor can create multiple
types of files including text files (.txt), rich text files (.rtf), HTML files (.htm and .html) and
Word files (.doc and .docx). Some word processors can also be used to create XML files (.xml).
Below is an example of blank Microsoft Word window with areas of the window highlighted..

Features of Word Processor


 Text Formatting
Changing the font, font size, font color, bold, italic, underline, etc.

 Copying, cutting and pasting


Once text is entered into a document, it can be copied or cut and pasted in the current or
another document.
 Multimedia
Insert clip art, charts, images, pictures and videos into a document.

 Spelling and Grammar


Checks for spelling and grammar errors in a document

 Adjust the layout


Capable of modifying the margin, size and layout of the document

 Find
Word-processes give you the ability to quickly find any word or text in any size of the
document.

Working and Editing Texts


To change the font
 Select the text you want to modify,
 Click the drop-down arrow next to the font box on the home tab
 Move the mouse pointer to the various font
 A live preview appears, select the font you want to use and the font will change.

To change the font size


 Select the text you want to modify,
 Click the drop-down arrow next to the font-size box on the home tab
 Move the mouse pointer to the various font-size and select the desired font-size.
 A live preview appears, select the font-size you want to use and the font size changes
accordingly.

You can also use Grow and Shrink font commands to change the size of the text.

To change the font color


 Select the text you want to modify,
 Click the Font color drop down menu on the Home tab
 The font color menu appears, Move the mouse pointer over various color fonts.
 A live preview appears, select the font-color you want to use and then click OK.
To highlight text
 Select the text you want to highlight.
 Click the highlight menu on the Home tab
 Highlight the text into various colors by clicking the drop down.

To use the bold, italic and underline commands


 Select the text you want to modify,
 Click the bold italic or underline command in the Font group.
To change the text case
 Select the text you want to modify,
 Click the Change case command in the Font group on the home tab.
 Select the desired case option in the list.

To change the text alignment


 Select the text you want to modify,
 Select one of the four alignment options from the Paragraph group on the Home tab.
1. Align text left
Aligns all selected text to left margin.
2. Center
Aligns all selected text to equal distance from the left to right margin.
3. Align text right
Aligns all selected text to right margin.
4. Justify
Aligns text equally on both sides and lines up equally to the right and left margins
used by newspapers and magazines.

To insert number at subscript or superscript


 Select the text you want to modify,
 Click the subscript or superscript command in the Font group in the home tab.

Creating New Document


 Open the MS-WORD
 Click on the "FILE" in the top left corner.
 Click on the "NEW" section.
 Click on the blank document. Thus, the document is created.
Saving New Document
When you create a new document in Word, you will need to know how to save it in order to
access and edit it later on. Frequently saving the document prevents you from losing your
work. There are several ways of saving a document.
Save command
 Click on the save command on the Quick access toolbar.
 The document will be saved in its current location with the same file name.
 If you are saving it for the first time then select save, the save as dialog box
will appear.
Save As command
 Click on File tab
 Select save as
 The save as dialog box will appear. Select the location and save the document.
 Enter the document name and enter.

CONCLUSION

Word processors have essentially made writing more accessible to everyone. The ability to
communicate clearly and effectively is no longer exclusive to a small group of people. With the
advent of these digital tools, anybody may now easily write, modify, and distribute captivating
narratives. Word processors will keep developing as time goes on, providing us with ever-more-
advanced capabilities and helping to ensure that written communication is always a potent means
of communication, comprehension, and creativity.
