Analysis of Variance (ANOVA)- One way Classification – Completely Randomized
Design(CRD) – Two way Classification – Randomized Block Design (RBD) – Latin square

PART A

1. Define Analysis of Variance.


2. Explain Design of experiments.
3. State the basic Principles of Experimental Designand explain them in short.
4. State the assumptions made for Analysis of variance test.
5. What are the advantages of completely randomized block design.
6. Write down ANOVA table for oneway classification
7. Write down ANOVA table for two way classification

9. Distinguish RBD and LSD.
10. What are the advantages of the Latin square design over other designs?

12. Why a 2X2 latin square is not possible? Explain.

1. A completely randomized design experiment with 10 plots and 3 treatments gave the
following results.

Analyse the result for treatment effects.


2. Three different machines are used for a production. On the basis of the outputs, set up one
way ANONA table and test whether the machines are equally effective.

3. The following sample gives the yields of 12 sample plots under three varieties of seed.

4. Three varieties A,B,C of a crop are tested in a randomized block design with four
replications. The plot yields in pounds are as follows.

Analyse the experimental yield and state your conclusion.
5. Four varieties A,B,C ,d of a fertilizer are tested in a RBD with 4 replication. The plot yields

Analyse the experimental yield.
6. The following table gives monthly sales(in thousand rupees) of a certain firm in three
states by its four salesmen

setup the analysis of variance table and test whether there is any significant difference (i)
between sales by the firm salesmen and (ii) between sales in three states.
7. An experiment was designed to study the performance of 4 different detergents
for cleaning fuel injectors. The following “cleanliness” readings were obtained
with specially designed equipment for 12 tanks of gas distributed over 3 different models
of engines

Perform the ANOVA and test at 0.01 level of significance, whether there are difference in the
detergents or in the engines.

Analyze the data.
10. Analyze the variance in the latin square of yields (in kgs)paddy where P,Q,R,S denote the
different methods of cultivation.
