1. Introduction

I. RATIONALE
In our barangay, access to educational resources and opportunities can be a significant
challenge, particularly for individuals living in underserved part of our barangay. And especially
now that people mostly rely on the internet to gather information, but sometime the resources on
the internet are occasionally unreliable, invalidated, and limited. One potential solution to this
issue is the establishment of a barangay library, a community-based resource that can provide a
range of educational materials and services to our residents especially students. This proposal
outlines the rationale, objectives, benefits, project description, methodology, schedule, and
budget for the creation of a barangay library in a targeted community.
This project is rooted in the recognition that many students and individuals in our
barangay lack access to essential educational resources, such as books, journals, and other
learning materials. This lack of access can hinder academic progress, limit personal growth, and
perpetuate socioeconomic disparities. By establishing a barangay library, the community can
address these challenges and provide a valuable resource for educational and personal
development.

II. OBJECTIVES
The primary objectives of this project are to:

1. Increase access to educational resources and materials for students and

community members.
2. Promote literacy and a love of reading among children and adults in the
barangay.
3. Provide a safe and inclusive space for community members to engage in
learning and personal growth.
4. Collaborate with local schools and organizations to enhance educational
opportunities in the barangay.
The benefits of a barangay library are multifaceted. It can serve as a hub for learning,
fostering a love of reading and self-directed exploration among students and community
members. Additionally, the library can provide a safe and welcoming space for individuals to
engage in educational and recreational activities, ultimately contributing to the overall well-being
and development of the community.

III. BENEFITS

1. Empower students and individuals who cannot afford cellphones or reading

materials to access educational resources and information.
2. Enhance literacy skills, critical thinking, and knowledge acquisition among users of
the barangay library.
3. Promote community engagement, cultural enrichment, and social cohesion through
educational programs, workshops, and activities.

2. Project Description

The project description involves the establishment of a dedicated space within the
barangay that will house the library. This space will be equipped with shelves, desks, and seating
to accommodate both individual and group study. The library will be stocked with a diverse
collection of books, journals, and other educational materials including fiction, non-fiction,
reference materials, textbooks, and materials in local languages, catering to various age groups
and interests. Create a computer station with internet access for research, online learning
platforms, and digital resources to supplement traditional reading materials. Recruit and train
library staff or volunteers to manage operations, assist users, organize events, and maintain the
library's collection that will cater to the diverse needs and interests of the community.

I. METHODOLOGY
The methodology for this project will involve several key steps, including:
1. Conduct a needs assessment survey within the barangay to identify the
target beneficiaries, their preferences, and the types of reading materials and
resources needed.
2. Collaborate with local schools, community organizations, and stakeholders
to gather support, donations, and partnerships for the establishment and
sustainability of the barangay library.
3. Recruiting and training volunteers to manage the day-to-day operations of
the library.
4. Implement a cataloging system and library management software to
organize and track the library's collection, circulation, and user engagement.
5. Develop outreach and promotional activities to raise awareness, attract users,
and encourage regular visits to the library through reading clubs, storytelling
sessions, workshops, and educational events.

II. SCHEDULE
The project schedule will involve an initial planning and set-up phase, followed by a
gradual implementation and expansion of the library's services and resources.

-JUNE- JULY
Phase 1 (Preparation): Needs assessment, space identification, resource
mobilization, and staff/volunteer recruitment (2 months).
- AUGUST- OCTOBER
Phase 2 (Establishment): Library setup, collection development, cataloging,
software implementation, and training (3 months).

- NOVEMBER- CONTINUOUS
Phase 3 (Launch and Operations): Official opening, promotional activities, program
implementation, and ongoing management (continuous).

III. BUDGET
The budget for this project will include the costs of establishing the physical space,
acquiring educational materials, and maintaining the library's operations.

- Space renovation and setup: PHP100,000

- Acquisition of reading materials and resources: PHP 70,000
- Computer station and internet access: PHP 60,000
- Promotional materials and outreach activities: PHP 8,000
- Miscellaneous expenses (utilities, maintenance): PHP 20,000
- Total Budget: PHP510,000

In conclusion, the establishment of a barangay library has the potential to significantly

improve educational opportunities and outcomes for individuals living in underserved
communities. By providing access to essential educational resources and creating a space for
learning and personal growth, this project can contribute to the overall development and
empowerment of the community.

PROMOTING SUSTAINABLE WASTE

MANAGEMENT THAT TRANSFORMING TRASH
INTO TREASURE: EMPOWERING OUR BARANGAY
THROUGH RECYCLED TRASH BINS IN EVERY
SITIO
English For Academic And Professional Purposes:
Project Proposal

Presented by:
Del Rosario, Mariel

Subject Teacher:
Fahd B. Agbulos
I. TITLE: "Promoting sustainable waste management that transforming trash into
treasure: Empowering our barangay through recycled trash bins in every sitio"

II. RATIONALE

Proper recycling of trash, especially in our community, is an activity that needs to be

prioritized. It is essential for us to take responsibility for our waste and ensure that it is
disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner. With this in mind, we would like to
propose the installation of recycled trash bins in every sitio within our barangay.

By having recycled trash bins in each sitio, we aim to make recycling more accessible
and convenient for all residents. These bins will serve as designated collection points where
individuals can easily deposit their recyclable materials. The strategic placement of these bins
will ensure that they are easily accessible to everyone, promoting increased participation in
recycling efforts.

III. BACKGROUND

I observe that most of the people here are complaining and arguing about the improper
waste segregation. Additional to that, when it is time or scheduled, the individuals who are in
charge of collecting our waste always get mad because we cannot segregate our waste
properly, and it is probably tiring and a waste of time to segregate it by themselves. Also, it's
not aesthetically pleasing, especially when it is displayed messy on the side of the road.

This project holds numerous benefits for both the people in our barangay and the
individuals in charge of weekly trash collection. It will significantly improve the efficiency of
waste management. The installation of recycled trash bins in every sitio will streamline the
collection process, allowing collectors to easily gather all the recyclable materials in one
place. This will save time and effort, ultimately leading to a more effective waste
management system.

In addition to the environmental benefits, the installation of recycled trash bins will
also have positive economic impacts. Recycling programs create employment opportunities
in waste management and recycling facilities. By increasing the volume of recyclable
materials collected, this project can potentially stimulate the local economy by supporting the
growth of recycling industries and creating new jobs within our barangay.

IV. OBJECTIVES

1. To raise awareness about the importance of sustainable waste management

practices within the community.
2. To encourage the adoption of recycling habits and reduce the amount of waste sent
to landfills.
3. To promote the concept of transforming trash into treasure by demonstrating
creative ways to repurpose recyclable materials.
4. To implement a system of recycled trash bins in every sitio of the barangay,
making it convenient for residents to dispose of their waste responsibly.
5. To educate community members on the proper segregation of waste and the
benefits of recycling.
6. To empower the barangay by creating opportunities for income generation through
the collection and sale of recyclable materials.
7. To monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the project in terms of waste reduction,
community engagement, and economic impact.
