1. Brazil was declared the host of the 2027 Women’s World Cup at the FIFA
Congress, beating the joint bid of Belgium, Netherlands and Germany to
become the first South American country to hold the tournament.
2. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) made history in the IPL by securing their
third title in 2024 with an impressive eight-wicket win against the Sunrisers
Hyderabad (SRH).

3. The seventh edition of the Indo-US joint counter-terrorism exercise,

in Ladakh close to the Line of Actual Control (LAC) along China.
5. Border Road Organization (BRO) made world highest airfield Nyoma
airfield Ladakh.
6. The 7th edition of India- France Joint Military Exercise SHAKTI
commenced at Umroi, in a fully developed and modern Foreign Training Node
in Meghalaya.
7. The Indian Army’s Kharga Corps, part of the Army’s Western Command,
concluded a three-day joint military exercise Gagan Strike-II with the Indian
Air Force (IAF) in Punjab.
8. India recently gifted indigenously-built in-service Missile Corvette INS
Kirpan to Vietnam.
9. ‘Solidarity exercise’ is a joint military drill involving the ASEAN nations -
Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei and the Philippines.
10. The Convention on Migratory Species (CMS), also known as the Bonn
Convention, is an environmental treaty of the United Nations.
11. Emerge-2024 is India’s first beachside startup festivalwhich took place at
Tannirbhavi Beach in Mangaluru.
12. Air Defender 23 is the biggest air force exercise to be held by NATO. This
10-day military undertaking is primarily based in Germany.
13. An Indian Air Force (IAF) contingent arrived at Eielson Air Force Base,
Alaska, for the Red Flag 24 exercise, deploying Rafale fighter jets. This
exercise has occurred since 1975.

14. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is


developing a laser weapon called DURGA-2 (Directionally Unrestricted
Ray-Gun Array). DURGA-2 is a 100-kilowatt, lightweight, directed-energy
weapon (DEW). It can be used for land, naval, and air use. DURGA-2 can
neutralise drone or ballistic missile attacks from the skies or even at the
originating location. It can travel at the speed of light.
15. The Indian Air Force conducted a significant aerial exercise called ‘Poorvi
Akash’ across the northeastern states along the China border.
This exercise involved joint Ops with the Indian Army and featured the use of
advanced and lethal weapons systems, including the ‘Sudarshan’ S-400 air
defence missile systems.
16. Sweden became the 32nd member of the North Atlantic Treaty
Organization (NATO) 2024 after completing its accession process in
Washington. Sweden’s application to join NATO came two years after
Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine raised security concerns.
17. Constitution Park, jointly developed by Indian Army and Punit Balan Group,
was inaugurated in Pune.
18. Indian Air Force has tested BHISHM Cube, a state-of the-art indigenous
mobile hospital, for airdrop in Agra. Project BHISHM – Bharat Health
Initiative for Sahyog, Hita and Maitri, is tailored to treat up to 200 casualties.
These cubes are robust, waterproof, and light, designed for various
configurations, making them ideal for diverse emergency scenarios.
19. India hosted the 46th Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting (ATCM-46)
and the 26th Committee for Environmental Protection (CEP-26) in Kochi,
Kerala.
20. The 10th World Water Forum under the theme of "Water for Shared
Prosperity" officially opened on Indonesia's island of Bali.
21. Alok Shukla, a 43-year-old environmental activist from Chhattisgarh, India,
has been awarded the prestigious Goldman Environmental Prize for 2024.
22. German writer Jenny Erpenbeck and translator Michael Hofmann have won the
International Booker Prize.
23. 29th May is celebrated as International Day of UN Peacekeepers 2024 Theme:
“Fit for the Future: Building Better Together”.
24. The United Nations declared 2024 the International Year of Camelids (IYC

26. World Press Freedom Index 2024, published annually by Reporters


Without Borders (RSF), lists the best and worst press freedom across 180
countries ,India's rank is 159 among 180 countries.
27. Earth Cloud Aerosol and Radiation Explorer (EarthCARE) satellite
mission, recently seen in the news, is a joint venture between which two space
agencies, ESA and JAXA.
28. Ghughwa National Fossils Park, recently seen in the news, is located in
Madhya pradesh.
29. Sam Prihoda is the author of the book titled 'The Idea of Democracy’.
30. INS Sharda was awarded the 'On the Spot Unit Citation' for successful

35. Nyoma Airfield (East Ladakh,near Aksai Chin) India’s Highest Fighter
airfield. South bank of Pangang Tso, BRO constructed it.
36. The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the fixtures for the ninth
ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 in Bangladesh.
37. Vice-Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi has been appointed as the 26th Chief
of the Indian Navy.

39. India hosted the 46th Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting (ATCM
46) in Kochi, organized by the National Centre for Polar and Ocean
Research and the Ministry of Earth Sciences. ATCM is an annual meeting
of the 1959 Antarctic Treaty’s signatories. India introduced a new
working group to regulate tourism and protect Antarctica’s ecosystem.
Representatives from 56 member countries attended, marking India’s first
time hosting since 2007.
40. India gains approval from the Ministry of External Affairs to manage its
second overseas port, Sittwe in Myanmar, following Chabahar in Iran.
Sittwe, situated at the Kaladan River’s mouth in Rakhine State,
Myanmar, is developed under the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport
Project (KMTTP), supported by India’s grant aid. This strategic move is
poised to amplify trade prospects for India’s Northeast, fostering
enhanced commerce between India and Myanmar.
41. Maryam Nawaz made history by becoming the first woman Chief
Minister of Pakistan’s Punjab province in February 2024. She is the
senior vice president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)
party.
42. Fraser Island, situated off Queensland’s coast in Australia, is the
world’s largest sand island. Its name has been changed to restore to its
indigenous name – K’gari.
43. The Einsatzgruppen were mobile units formed by the Nazi regime
during World War II. Their primary purpose was to systematically
eliminate Jewish communities, among other targeted groups, through
mass murder.
44. FMR refers to the Free Movement Regime operational on India’s
border with Myanmar. It allows tribal communities living along both
sides of the border to travel up to 16 km across the border without visas.

45. Kami Rita, a legendary Nepalese mountaineer, broke his own world
record by summiting Mount Everest 29 times. He accomplished this
feat over 30 years, with his latest ascent on May 12, 2024. Born in 1970,
Rita began his career in 1992 and conquered Everest first in 1994. He’s
known as the “Everest Man.” His competitor, Pasang Dawa, has
climbed Everest 27 times. Everest’s height is 8,848.86 meters or
29,031.69 feet.
46. The Indian Navy conducted an outreach programme at Ladakh named
“Julley Ladakh” (Hello Ladakh), to awareness about the Indian
Navy in Ladakh. The programme included a 5000km Motorcycle
Expedition. The core objectives of the programme are to Celebrate Azadi
ka Amrit Mahotsav, Conduct Awareness drives at Schools/ Colleges
about career opportunities in Indian Navy and to showcase Nari Shakti in
the region.
47. The Ministry of Defence granted approval for the procurement of the
Predator (MQ-9 Reaper) drones from the United States.
48. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) launched the ‘One
Vehicle One FASTag’ initiative to boost the adoption of FASTags for
toll collection on national highways. It aims to link each vehicle with a
single FASTag, curbing misuse of multiple tags per vehicle. This move
enhances toll collection efficiency and streamlines the process,
contributing to smoother traffic flow.
49. Public Wi-Fi hotspots under the Prime Minister Wi-Fi Access Network
Interface (PM-WANI) scheme are nearing 200,000 in India. Launched
in December 2020 by the Department of Telecommunications, PM-
WANI aims to provide affordable, high-speed internet in rural and remote
areas. The scheme establishes a public Wi-Fi network using Wi-Fi
Access Points set up by Public Data Offices (PDOs), which operate on an
open-architecture system, enabling multiple service providers to offer
internet services.

 Op Amrit: To reduce the use of antibiotics by the Government of Kerala.
 Op Ajay: To evacuate Indian citizens from Israel during the Israel-Hamas war
by the Government of India.
 Op Iron Swords: Israel's code name for its ongoing fight against Hamas.
 Op Chakra-2: Under this, raids were conducted at various places by CBI to
eliminate the cybercrime Mafia.

India.
 Op Garuda: CBI to eliminate drug network.
 Op Meghchakra: CBI to trace people who are circulating child pornography.
 Op Narcos: To stop drug smuggling through rail by Railway Protection Force.
 Mission Amanat: For tracking of lost luggage of passengers by Indian
Railways.
 Op Ganga: To bring back Indian citizens and students trapped in war-torn
Ukraine by the Government of India.
 Op Olivia: To rescue the Olive Ridley turtles of Odisha by the Indian Coast
Guard.
 Op Vigilant: To prevent smuggling of illicit tobacco and illicit liquor in trains
by Railway Protection Force.
 Op Devi Shakti: To rescue Indians trapped in Taliban-occupied Afghanistan
by the Ministry of External Affairs.
 Op Available: To curb black marketing of railway tickets by Railway
Protection Force and to make available to the people.
 Op AAHT: To save women and children from traffickers by Railway
Protection Force.
 Op Sard Hawa: To prevent incidents of infiltration by BSF in dense fog along
the Western International Border of Rajasthan.
