chart . Name the process of each interconversion.
2) Define (i) Latent heat of fusion and (ii) Latent heat of vaporisation of
water .
3) When water is cooled to a temperature x , it gets gets converted into
ice at temperature x by a process P . And when ice at temperature x
is warmed , it gets reconverted into water at the same temperature x
in a process called Q . (i) What is the value of temperature x in kelvin ?
(ii) What is the process P known as ? , (iii) What is the process Q known
as ?
4) Give reason : (i) Water at room temperature is a liquid , (ii) A gas
cylinder cannot be half filled .
5) How does the rate of diffusion change with (i) Density of liquid and
(ii) Temperture ?
6) Explain how three states of matter arise due to variation in the
characteristics of the particles .
C) Answer any TWO Questions : 2 × 5 = 10
1) What is pressure ? What is its unit ? On what factor does the
pressure of a gas depend ?
2) Define evaporation . Discuss the factors which affect evaporation .

The temperature-time graph show the heating curve for pure wax .
From the graph answer the following questions : (a) What is the physical
state of the substance at the points A, B, C and D? (b) What is the melting
point of the substance? (c) What is its boiling point? (d) Which portions
of the graph indicate that change of state is taking place? (e) Name the
terms used for heat absorbed during change of states involved in above
processes.
