INTRODUCTION
It was quite difficult for individuals to complete their chores in the past,
especially at night, when there was no electricity or lights. People use torches,
lamps, and candles, among other methods, to get beyond these obstacles.
Thus, let the researchers present to you “Oregano (Origanum Vulgare) Extract
In Candles As Mosquito Repellent And Help Relieve Colds And Cough” It serves
as a mosquito repellent in addition to lighting up your dim surroundings. Since
mosquitoes are known to be particularly active at night, this candle’s oregano
(Origanum vulgare) aroma may deter mosquitoes. Furthermore, this candle
might be useful in treating coughs and colds.
The study aims to determine the effectiveness of the oregano extract in candles
as a mosquito repellent and help relieve colds and cough.

Fifty (50) Senior High School students of St. Columban’s College of the
school year 2023 – 2024 will be the respondents of this study. Each of the
students is between the ages ranging from 16 to 18 years old. It will be limited
to the preparation status of the said people.
This study will be done in order to know more about the Oregano
(Origanum Vulgare) Extract in Candles As Mosquito Repellent And Help Relieve
Colds And Cough. In order to improve the effectiveness and chemical-free of a
mosquito repellent candle. This study will be beneficial to the following.
Students- the result will provide the students with the same knowledge on the
oregano being a mosquito repellent and can relieve cough and colds.
Future Researchers- this study will serve as guide for them in doing the same
line of research.
Parents – this study will serve as guide for them to protect themselves and
their children.
Ordinary Civilians – this study will help the ordinary civilians living in
mosquito prone areas.

Conceptual Framework
Figure 1.1 Research Paradigm
The process component contains the procedure utilized in the study. The
researcher gathered the necessary data for the study through quantitative
survey questionnaire and afterwards the researcher analyzed the data
gathered. This component contains on what type of research that the
researcher used in gathering data.
Lastly, the output component contains the target outcome of the study,
and that is the Oregano (Origanum Vulgare) Extract In Candles As Mosquito

Plants are recognized as a safe and trusted remedy for mosquito bites
and even repellants. One of these is Oregano also known as "Origanum
Vulgare" according to this article, herbal repellant such as Oregano provides
long lasting protection. Its strong aroma will drive the mosquitos away and will
not hurt our nose because of its aroma, rather it will provide good fragrant
sensation that can be suiting to smell. Patil, Satish and Morbale, Smita T.

According to the article “Oregano Oil for Cold and Flu: Does It Work?”
Cronkleton E. (2020), Oregano oil is well-known for its antiviral, anti-
inflammatory, and antioxidant qualities when taken as a herbal supplement. It
includes a number of possibly therapeutic substances, including:
•Carvacrol
•thymol
•terpinene
It is also stated in this article that the oil of Oregano (Origanum Vulgare)
has been traditionally used by people for respiratory health, which also became
a popular alternative remedy for cold and flu symptoms.
As you read through the article, you’ll see that it was stated there that
there was a 2017 study that found that oregano essential oil, especially from
the leaves of the oregano plant, has antioxidant properties and it has been
noted the traditional use of oregano oil in treating fevers and respiratory
symptoms which are both associated with flu. The researchers said that it was
due to one of the main compounds in oregano oil, carvacrol. While carvacrol
was more effective against certain viruses on its own, oregano oil was more
effective against respiratory viruses, such as flu viruses.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
This chapter shows the method being used in this study. This involves
research design, sources of data, materials and equipment, general procedure
instrumentation and data gathering and tools for data analysis.
Research Design
Under this method the technique used was the survey method, otherwise
known as normative survey.
Sources of Data
The research will gather fifty (50) Senior Highschool students who will be
the respondents during the survey in Saint Columban’s College in Lingayen,
Pangasinan during the school year 2023-2024
The researchers prepared all the materials and equipment needed for
making the Oregano Scented Candle. They gathered oregano leaves from one of
the researchers front yard, they prepared a container, salt, cooking oil, pan,
and for the pabelo they prepared an old piece of clothing made out of cotton.
General Procedure
Third, while waiting for the oil to heat, chop the oregano leaves.
Fourth, when the oil is heated to the expected temperature, add the
oregano leaves in the pan.
Fifth, while waiting for the oregano leaves to look withered, prepare the
container and put salt until the container is filled halfway.
Sixth, while letting the oregano oil rest, proceed in making the pabelo:
just twist a piece of old cotton clothing.
The survey questionnaire was used in this study. It was prepared by the
researchers to determine the significant difference between Oregano (Origanum
Vulgare) scented candles, and other commercial candles.
The questionnaire includes the feeling when inhaled, and the scent of
Oregano extract used as a material for candles. It was assessed by eighty (80)
senior high school respondents of Saint Columban's College that was currently
enrolled in the school year 2023-2024. The researchers will give explanations
and instructions while distributing the said questionnaire in order for the
respondents to know and understand the concept of the researcher's
questionnaire for them to answer it well and correctly. They will be asked to
rate the fragrance and the feeling of oregano extract in the candle when being
inhaled.
To answer the research problems of this study the following tables below
were used to show the scale of the results from the given answer of the
respondents to the questionnaire.

Chapter IV
The gathered data were divided into three parts: Part 1, the profile of the
respondents with respect to their age, gender, strand and scent preference.
Part 2, the effectivity level of the Oregano Scented Candle in relation to their
texture, scent, and appearance. Lastly, the significant difference between
Oregano Scented Candle and the Commercialized Churros.
The following table presents or shows the frequency and the percentages
of the results acquired from the respondents according to their age, gender,

Chapter V
This chapter presents the summary of the study, the important findings
where conclusions were based, and the recommendations made by the
researchers based on the findings and conclusions on effectiveness level of
Senior High School students to Oregano Scented Candle.
SUMMARY
Based on the statistical analysis, this study points to these findings. This
study focused on the effectiveness level of Senior High School students in
Oregano Scented Candle.
b. Age. There were 3 respondents (6%) with the age 15, 24 students (48%)
with the age of 16, 20 students (40%) with the age of 17, and 3 respondents
(6%) with the age of 18.
c. Strand. There are 29 students (58%) from ABM strand, 4 ICT students
(8%), 2 students (4%) from HUMSS strand, and 15 respondents (30%) are
STEM strand enrollee.
The Effectiveness Level of Oregano scented Candle
From the computed results, it shows that the indicators were highly
effective in terms of its texture, scent, and appearance to the product of
Oregano Scented Candle. As shown in the results, the answer of the students -
respondents differs are not the same, so additionally, the answer vary.
CONCLUSIONS
Based on the findings of the study, the researchers concluded that the
effectiveness level of the Senior High School students from Saint Columban’s
College on the product Oregano Scented Candle were totally satisfied. The
researchers also inferred that the Oregano Scented Candle will have a high
demand if this product will be sold in the public.
RECOMMENDATIONS
3.For future researchers who will conduct and perform the same study, they
must be careful and knowledgeable of all things they need to consider in
making the same product and conducting the same research.
