B. Motivation
Before we start, let us first have our
activity. I have here a gift that contains
some names of the persons and you will
think of the best gift that you can give to
the persons you have chosen. I will play a
song and the box should be passed on to
the person beside you. Once the music
stops, the one holding the box will get one
paper from it, show us who is that person
whom you would give a gift to if you
have a chance and why. Is that clear
class?

written by O. Henry: “The Gift of the
Magi”. But before that let us read
altogether the objectives for today’s
lesson.
Objectives:

Gift of Magi” by O. Henry;
b. summarize and reflect on the theme of the
story; and
c. present the setting, characters, conflict, mood
and theme in the short story by reading texts.
For us to better understand the story, let
us consider the guide questions to be
answered after reading and watching the
video. Kindly read the questions.

Setting- “where” and “when” of the story. Time

creatures who take part in the action of a story.
Plot- organized pattern or sequence of events that

Mood- The feeling that the reader establishes
throughout the story.
Conflict- dramatic struggle in a story. If you are
having a conflict with yourself that is called an
internal conflict and when you’re having a
conflict to others it is external conflict.
Theme- Central message/ life lesson in a story.
