Sri Vidya Foundation Course

1. Sri Vidya is a practical approach to going beyond to what we think we are. We have
perceptions of being capable of some things, and incapable of others. Sri Vidya is an
approach geared towards expanding our consciousness to go beyond these
perceptions.
2. Sri Vidya is a Sadhna Shastra, implying that you have to practice and keep on
practicing to receiving the benefits.
3. The Fire Homam is also a way through which the fire without is made to rekindle the
fire which is within. It is an attempt or rather a way of replicating that which is
without.
4. Sri Vidya can be described as the Tantra of Lalitha.
5. Sri Vidya can also be described as a tantra of beauty, bliss, and immortality.
6. The goal of Sri Vidya is to take you to a state where you become one with Ultimate
Reality.
7. Sri -> All that is auspicious, beautiful.
8. Vidya -> Knowledge, but the knowledge that is gained through experience.
9. ‘Sa Vidya Ya Vimuktaye’ -> The knowledge that liberates us.
10. ‘Devi’ -> ‘Divyate Prakaashate Anayaa Itee Devi’ -> She is the consciousness, the
prana shakti that is present within each and everyone of us (all living things).
11. ‘The Devi acts in us, through us, in so many different ways’
12. Sri Vidya is also the mantra chanted to receive her grace
13. What if this is the answer to the question of existence: that it has only been fabricated
to answer Thanatos, and an existential dread.
14. Shiva and Shakti are considered as present in all of us, however, while Shiva is
considered as this ‘inert, passive witness within us’, Shakti, on the other hand, is lived
as ‘the dynamic power that engages the universe’
15. Shiva represents the ‘nirguna tattva’, so He’s formless, attributeless.
16. Shakti represents ‘all that we can see, and imagine’
17. They seem to be so different, but they are one and the same.
18. ‘Vinah Shakti Shivaah Shavaha’ -> Without Shakti, Shiva is like a corpse (but NOT a
corpse). Only when the ‘energy’ enters him, is He able to do anything!
19. Lalitha -> ‘Shiva Shakti Ek Roopini’ -> she’s the combination of both Shiva and
Shakti.
20. If they are really equal, then why do we focus on Shakti?
21. ‘Shiva doesn’t want to get involved, while Shakti does’
22. Why is Shiva represented as the ‘Sun’, and Shakti as the ‘moon’
23. You can enjoy all sorts of things, as long as you have no attachment for them. That
‘attachment’ is what is problematic. Imagine seeing a flower, and finding it beautiful,
right where it belongs, versus seeing a beautiful flower, and wanting to possess it.
24.
25.

26. Usually, people think that when they embark on something spiritual, they feel that
they have to abandon some of their desires, or things that they have been doing, how
much ever mundane these could be (for instance, meeting friends, going to parties,
etc), BUT the path of Sri Vidya actually enjoins you to enjoy your life, as your life,
your life force, your humanity, your human body, your consciousness is that Devi
herself, which implies that you have to meet the needs of your body, of your human
nature in order to be happy, as this would tantamount to making Her happy as well.

27. Best form of puja you can offer is to be happy and then make others happy 😊.

28. But if everything that there is in this universe has been created by her, what can we
really offer to her then?
29. Which could imply that the enjoyment of what this universe has to offer, is akin to
accepting her blessings, and in this manner, a form of worship.
30.

31. Pictures help to visualize. Symbols help to grip attention, and offer relativity, context,
approachability, terrain d’entente…
32. The study of Sri Vidya reposes on three pillars: mantra, yantra, and tantra.
33. The Mantra is something that creates the energy field by constantly repeating it. What
if this constant repetition is an attempt at subduing our own energies, or to invoke
some sort of energy within us that matches with how we perceive that energy, in
which case, the transformation happens from within.
34. Yantra -> ‘Basically a tool’ serving a similar purpose as the mantra.
35. Tantra -> ‘Tanoti Traayati Itee Tantraha’
36. ‘Tanoti’ means to ‘stretch’ or ‘expand’
37. What is it that is being stretched or expanded – it is the consciousness.
38. Even if extremely potent and ancient, Sri Vidya is only being known today, or rather
taught, because the democratization of knowledge via the net, has not only made
information more accessible, but also misinformation, which in turn makes it
important for those who actually know the way (Sri Vidya) to work against the spread
of false information or practices about the Sri Vidya, not only to save this ‘path’, but
also to secure its sanctity.
39.

40. ‘Parshramaa Kalpaa Suktaas’
