Sub-tasked Competency: Illustrates multiplication as repeated addition using groups of equal quantities.
5
5 Suggested Activities/ Flow of the Discussion
 Start the lesson by asking the learners to read the following number sentences (Most probably they cannot
read no. 3)
1.) 4 + 3
2.) 4 - 3
3.) 4 x 3
 Prompt the learners by asking,” do you know how to read” what is written in no.3?
 Model how to read No.3. Emphasize the different operation symbols of the three “mathematical phrases”
 Give another “multiplication phrases” and ask the learners to read each of it correctly.
 Introduce the lesson by posing another prompt question “you already know how to read 4 x 3, but do you
know what does it mean?”
 Illustrate the meaning of 4 x 3 as 4 groups of 3. Use concrete objects in illustrating. (You may use
popsicle sticks already pasted in cartolina and post it on the board)

Illustrative Example

4x3 means

or 4 x 3 means 3 + 3 + 3 + 3

 Give more illustrative examples so that all the learners will be able to understand the meaning of
multiplication.
 Deepen the understanding through Worksheet No. 32.1 (Note: Those who are using the Sinugbuanong
Binisaya LM you may give activities 1 & 2 on pp. 120 – 122 instead of the worksheet). Process the
activity one at a time.
 Reinforce the learning by giving an assignment

Suggested Activities
 Process the given assignment then give Worksheet No. 32.2

6
2 32. Illustrates multiplication as repeated addition. (M2NS-IIf-38)
Sub-tasked Competency: Illustrates multiplication as repeated addition using equal jumps on the number line

Suggested Activities
 Review the previous lesson by illustrating a multiplication sentence i.e., 3 x 2.
 Connect the new lesson by discussing that it will be easier to find the answer of a multiplication if they can
illustrate it in the number line. Why? Because the number that correspond to the last jump is the answer.
(Your illustrative example may look like this)

Multiplication sentence: 3 x 2
Repeated Addition: 2 + 2 + 2
Illustration using group of objects:

Ilustration using the number line:

(Note: Discuss clearly the relation of the multiplication sentence and the jumps in the number line.
i.e. 3x2 means 3 equal jumps in multiples of 2)
 Provide additional examples. Emphasize that the number where the last jumps ends is the product. Point it
out and check its correctness by finding the sum of the repeated addition.
 Deepen the understanding through Worksheet No. 32.3 (Note: Those who are using the Sinugbuanong
Binisaya LM you may give activity on pp. 123 – 124 instead of the worksheet)

products. (e.g. if they know the answer for 2x4 then they already know the answer for 4x2; etc.)
 Deepen the skills through Worksheet No. 36 (Note: Those who are using the Sinugbuanong Binisaya LM you
may give the activities on p. 133 instead of the worksheet)
