CCE refers Continuous & Comprehensive

Evaluation, a system of school based


assessment that covers all the aspects of a
student’s development. It was designed to
reduce the student stress related to board
exams, and to introduce a uniform and
comprehensive pattern for student evaluation
across the country.
 It emphasizes on two broad objectives:
 (a) Continuity in Evaluation and
 (b) Assessment of broad based learning.
 Clearly, it attempts to shift emphasis from
‘testing’ to ‘holistic learning’ with an aim of
creating young adults, possessing appropriate
skills and desirable qualities in addition to
academic excellence.
Objectives of CCE
 Encourage development of cognitive skills and
de-emphasize rote learning
 Make the entire education process a student-
centered activity
 Help develop cognitive, psychomotor and
interpersonal skills
 Make holistic evaluation an integral part of entire
education process
Improve student's accomplishments through
regular diagnostics and remedial instructions.
 Use evaluation to control quality and
maintain desired performance.
 Take decisions about the learner, learning
process and learning environment by
determining social utility, desirability &
effectiveness of the programme.
Characteristics of CCE
 CCE involves the process of assessing student learning
continually throughout the academic year at regular
intervals.
 The scholastic component of CCE conceptualizes
evaluation of all academic subjects spread over the
entire span of the learning period.
 It also includes physical education in its scope of
assessment.
 It uses a variety of tools and techniques like
written tests, observation, rating scale, check list,
quiz etc.
 CCE carried out through Formative and
summative assessment.
 Descriptive indicators are used to assess the
achievement profile of the learners in FA.
 SA involves regular and norm based assessment.
It lays emphasize on thought process
and deemphasizes memorization in
learning.
By finding out the individual needs of
learners and make them achieve,
helps students to become efficient
citizens.
FUNCTIONS OF CCE
 It helps the teacher organize effective teaching
strategies.
 It helps the teacher to assess students progress
continuously.
 It serves to diagnose the deficiencies in student
learning and permits the teacher to ascertain,
the individual learner’s strengths, weaknesses
and needs.
 CCE identifies areas of aptitude and interest of
students. It also helps the teacher in identifying
the required the changes in attitudes and values
of students.
 It helps in making decisions for the future,
regarding choice of subjects courses and
careers.
 Merits of CCE
Student performance is continuously evaluated at
regular intervals and providing feedback.
It promotes in students in the habits of studying
regularly.
Teaching learning activities are well developed.
Students attainment and progress are reported
periodically to their parents .
Helps to identify deficiencies and taking immediate
remedial measures for the same.
It is non threatening and helps in reducing learners
stress .
Demerits of CCE
 Students mental stress increased.
 Evaluation procedure differ from school to
school.
 Very difficult to assess student performance.
 Difficult to conduct overcrowded classes.
 It helps in making decisions for the future,
choice and carriers. Teachers have to spend
more time to prepare evaluation reports.
Role of teachers in CCE
Teachers should be honest.
Providing feedback.
Reporting results
