1 Introduction
This document covers the structural analysis and design of STP Reinforced Concrete
Tank. Modelling, analysis and design were performed using Midas Gen structural software and
Microsoft Excel for load computations. This report includes the design of wall and slab
thickness, and the reinforcement bars for the wall and slab of the RC Tank.
2 Modeling
The reinforced structure was modeled in Midas Gen 2021.

4 Materials
A. Poured-in- Place Concrete
1. Footings, Pedestal, Grade Beams fc’= 4,000 psi (27.58 MPa)
B. Reinforcing Steel
1. ASTM A706,
Grade 60 (for 16mm Ø and larger) fy = 60,000 psi (414 MPa)
2. ASTM A615,
Grade 40 (for 12mm Ø and smaller) fy = 40,000 psi (275 MPa)
5 Loading
A. Dead Loads
1 Reinforced Concrete 23.56 kN/m3
2 Structural Steel 77.00 kN/m3
B. Fluid Pressure
1 Sewage 7.07 kN/m3
C. Lateral Loads
1 Seismic Loads
Soil Profile Type SD
Seismic Source Type A
Seismic Zone Factor 0.4 Zone 4
Near-source Factor Na = 1.1; Nv = 1.1
Seismic Coefficient Ca = 0.44Na; Cv = 0.64Nv
Approximate distance to Seismic Source 7.70 km
Importance Factor I = 1.50
Note:
Soil investigation parameters for seismic design is based on NSCP or UBC 97 codes
6 Support Boundary
Assumed 150 kPa SBC – Compression only for the supports.
7 Load Combination
A. For Ultimate Strength Design of Reinforced Concrete and Steel
a) 1.4(D + F)
b) 1.2(D + F + T) + 1.6(L + H) + 0.5 (L r or R)
c) 1.2D + 1.6(L r or R) + (f 1 L or 0.8W)
d) 1.2D + 1.0W + f 1 L + 0.5(L r or R)
e) 1.2D + 1.0E + f 1 L
f) 0.9D + 1.0W + 1.6H
g) 0.9D + 1.0E + 1.6H
f 1 = 1.0 for floors in places of public assembly, for live loads in excess of 4.8 kPa, and for
garage live load.
= 0.5 for other live loads
