exemplify?
4. Enumerate at least 5 values that people should practice nowadays.
WHAT IS IT
I have worked with people of all ages, and that has given me the unique
experience of learning about the different value systems of many people. It
has been very interesting to listen to every person’s story and what is
important in their life, whether they are 6 or 60 years old.
Values reflect our sense of right and wrong. They help us grow and
develop. They help us create the future we want. The decisions we make every
day are a reflection of our values.
We learn most of our values from our parents and extended families.
Our family values stem from our social and cultural values. Sometimes new
life experiences may change values we previously held.
Individual values reflect how we live our life and what we consider
important for our own self-interests. Individual values include enthusiasm,
creativity, humility and personal fulfillment.
Relationship values reflect how we relate to other people in our life, such
as friends, family, teachers, managers, etc. Relationship values include
openness, trust, generosity and caring.
In today’s world, it may seem our society doesn’t practice many values.
We have a rise in discrimination, abuse of power, greed, etc. What are we
leaving behind for our future generations? Maybe it’s time society takes a hard
look at its values.
Here are some things I feel our society needs more of:

WHAT I CAN DO
Unchanging Values
“The last weekend World Meeting on the Family held in Valencia Spain brought
to the fore once more, man’s difficulty in maintaining a balance between the old
and the new (Sison 2006). The ever changing world constantly brainwashes
man to adopt everything new at the expense of old traditional values because
modern technological advances seem to have rendered these values obsolete.
The constant flux in the world has indeed rendered man vulnerable to all sorts
of changes including those affecting the unchanging Gospel values. Hence the
news reports about the said world congress have mentioned that Pope Benedict
XVI himself deemed it worthwhile to travel to Spain as part of his campaign in
defense of traditional family precisely because Spain is a predominantly
Catholic Country that now allows gay marriage, divorce and abortion.
To be sure even our own home front is beleaguered with so many moves to
introduce changes that are anti-family and anti-life. In the Senate, six bills on
reproductive health, population policy, two-child policy and sex education for
the youth are now being discussed and considered by the Committees on
Health and Demography, Youth, Women and Family Relations, Ways and
Means and Finance. These are Senate Bills (SB) 81, 1280, 1281, 1480, 1546,
and 1816.”
Comprehension Questions:
2. What are the unchanging values explicated by the author in this editorial?
“The worst part is the deceptive manner of introducing the methods mentioned
in the bills to make them acceptable. Emphasis is laid on the supposed
"reproductive health" that they are supposed to achieve when in fact the
ultimate effects are harmful physically and morally. Our Senators perhaps are
not aware that "reproductive health" is a universally accepted term used in
international conferences as to include abortion which is illegal in this
jurisdiction. Furthermore the effects of the use of contraceptives do not really
contribute to reproductive health care. The WHO report says that oral
contraceptives are carcinogenic to humans. Statistics from countries allowing
contraceptives also show that it leads to abortion which, in turn has so many
adverse consequences on the family and society like broken marriages, divorce,
drug addiction and rise in criminality.
It is true that the only constant thing in this world is change. But not all changes
are for the better. In making changes therefore we have to apply some "brakes"
in the form of the traditional values arising from the eternal teachings of Christ
in the Gospel.”
c. As a teenager who’s confronted with the present belief and value system,
how will you retain or keep ‘unchangeable’ the traditional values you have
learned from your family, school and community?
ASSESSMENT
Finally, you were able to tackle the different related activities to sharpen
your skills on the different issues, concerns, or dispositions of our world,
country, or family. Now, it’s time to evaluate your learning.

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES
This song makes the case that truth is harder to find than love. A
gripping song dissecting the lack of shame in society. Joel sings about how
he can find someone to comfort him with promises, but honesty is far rarer.
You can be in love with someone, but it doesn't mean you're going to have
truth (n.a. 2020).
Listen attentively to the Lyrics of the song, “Honesty”. Be ready to
answer the following questions.
HONESTY
By Billy Joel
[Verse 1]
If you search for tenderness
It isn't hard to find
You can have the love you need to live
But if you look for truthfulness
You might just as well be blind
It always seems to be so hard to give
[Chorus]
Honesty is such a lonely word
Everyone is so untrue
Honesty is hardly ever heard
And mostly what I need from you
[Verse 2]
I can always find someone
11
[Bridge]
I can find a lover
I can find a friend
I can have security
Until the bitter end
Anyone can comfort me
With promises again
I know, I know
[Verse 3]
When I'm deep inside of me
Don't be too concerned
I won't ask for nothin' while I'm gone
But when I want sincerity
Tell me where else can I turn
Cause you're the one that I depend upon.
Questions:
1. What values are being mentioned in the song?
2. Among these values, what do you think the values
the most? Why do you say so?
3. If you were in his stead, what value would you
emphasize? Why?
