BRIEF INTRODUCTION
Advancements in technology about data processing using cables is very
evident nowadays. But there are needs to consider in terms of structured cable
installation. To avoid network down because of some or other reason regarding
the installation of cables. Here are the different procedures on how to install
connectors to coaxial cable and how to make a local area network (LAN) cable.

COAXIAL CABLE
This cable was invented in 1880s. This also known as “coax” a kind of cable that is
connected from antennas to television sets. These cables consist of an inner copper
wire of varying thickness surrounded by insulation and other shielding. In most homes,
the two most common sizes are RG-6 and RG-59.

RG stands for "Radio Guide." The numbers of the various versions of RG cable refer to
the diameter (59 meaning .059, and 6 meaning .06, etc.) and internal characteristics of
the cable, including the amount of shielding and the cable's attenuation, which refers to
how much signal loss there is per length of cable.

HOW TO CONNECT COAXIAL CABLE CONNECTORS

1. Cut the cable flush. 2. Trim the outer cover (usually black
rubber) back 1/2".
 Be very careful not to cut into the
metal braiding directly beneath the
outer housing. The braiding may
be both "loose" wire and a foil-like
metal present in shielded wire

four pairs of wires inside the jacket. Each pair is twisted with different number of twists

LOOKING BACK TO YOUR LESSON

DIRECTIONS: Read the following questions about the previous topic and write your
answers on your notebook.
1. What are the steps in connecting coaxial cable connectors?
2. What are the steps in making local area network (LAN) cable?

BRIEF INTRODUCTION

Installation of home security system is very important. It protects you and

your family from intruder and deterrence to criminals. In this lesson you will learn
how to use Coaxial RG59/ RG6 Cable and UTP CAT5 Cable in installation of
CCTV Cameras according to standards.

STEPS ON HOW TO CONNECT COAXIAL CABLE TO BNC CONNECTOR

1. Prepare all the necessary tools, materials and equipment.

2. Strip the coaxial cable with side cutter approximately ½”.

 (Be sure that the grounding is completely piled outside the cable)

13
3. Separate the shielding part of coaxial for grounding. (shielding wires as shown
in the image.

4. Using a side cutter or stripper, strip the dielectric material (white insulating
material).

5. Remove the crimp sleeve to connector body and insert to coaxial cable.

6. Connect the coaxial cable to the terminal of BNC connector and screw.
 (Be sure that the grounding is covered with plastic tube before
enclosing the crimp barrel)

14
STEPS ON HOW TO CONNECT DC CONNECTOR TO FLAT CORD
1. Using the wire stripper or cutter plier, splice the insulation of the power cord wires.

2. Using the crimping tool or wire stripper, Splice the insulated wire inside until 5mm
of the copper wire is exposed.

3. Choose the color which will be the positive (+) terminal and negative (-) terminal
to connect to the polarity of the DC connector.
15
4. Unscrew the (+) positive terminal and (-) negative terminal of the DC connector.

5. Insert the color you choose for the positive (+) terminal and (-) negative terminal
of the DC connector.

6. Using the precision Philips screw driver, tighten the screw of the positive (+)
and negative (-) terminal of the DC connector.

7. Test the continuity of the cable with the connector using the ohmmeter of the
multimeter to make sure that nothing is shorted before connecting it to the
power source. The reading should show infinite (∞) resistance.

16
8. Perform the same process to the other end of the coaxial cable to the other DC
connector.
