Hey, I’m Dean.
I founded MAVERRIK almost ten years ago as a solopreneur
marketing consultancy. I didn’t have a big corporate career and
tons of savings. I’m a working-class, non-university-educated
marketer who had to find his way in the world.

I’ve known the pain and frustration of the struggle to get


clients. I’ve also experienced first-hand the feast and famine of
unpredictable revenue. I’ve had the brutal experience of having
yo-yo revenue.

In my early days, my first business was so unpredictable, my


lead flow and client acquisition was so uncertain, I had to quit
and get a job after sinking myself into unsustainable debt.

Fast forward to today, I’ve turned those wounds into wisdom.

MAVERRIK is an international business service with clients


across the world. I consult with large corporates as well as
coaching small businesses through my programmes and online
courses.

Making 10K
Feel Like Nothing
Many people talk about the first million, that big magic number
of your business going to seven-figures…BUT…

Before we get those six zeros, your business needs to establish


itself and discover that 10k a month is the new zero.

I get a massive kick from seeing a small business thrive, whilst I


love the corporate work, it feels like I make a bigger difference
when I see the thank you emails and the feedback from our
programme members. I guess I’ll always be rooted in helping
solopreneurs and small businesses succeed.

In this short guide, I’m going to give you the process I


recommend that will help you achieve consistency in your
revenue and hit the 10k, 20k, even 50k revenue months.
I’ve done this. I do this. I help others do this.

In fact, today this process has helped MAVERRIK break revenue


records every year since 2018.

You can make a lot of money by being focused. I can remember


when I started out with MAVERRIK I was offering what anyone
would buy. It didn’t matter what it was, if it was marketing related,
I’d have a go.

This stemmed from my insecurities. I had a belief that getting


clients for my business was like hunting for lost treasure. Difficult,
fraught with danger and rare to find. This bad thought process
taught me that I could not afford to miss out on any sale, because
I’d never know when the next one would be.

This proved to be a huge fat mistake and turned me into a busy


fool.

It was wrong.
One Clear Client, Offering
and Message
In order to sell something successfully you have one clear ideal
client, one clear offer and a very focused message.

Don’t be defined by a niche, don’t become the ‘fitness coach


for CEOs in the tech sector’ or the ‘mindset coach for cyber
security professionals’ - focus on the transformation people
want to see. In other words, what common and painful issues
will a group of people struggling want to change.

I recommend focusing on groups of decision makers who all


have a common problem and motivation.

This guide is a clear example: It will help anyone selling


services as a solopreneur or small business get consistent 10k
revenue months - this crosses niche, but is focused by the
common pain and common result.

Once I understood the power of focus, things really started to


change.

After doing everything for everyone. In other words, anything


to get money. I focused down. I targeted three groups of
people, business owners, marketers and salespeople.
I decided to create a short 3 hour course entitled “Win Your
Next Client On LinkedIn”.

I did workshops and charged £70 a ticket. The first one or two
were a bit crappy, but we got great reviews. So, I decided to
drop all my other things and focus intently on this.
IEverything I talked about, everything I offered was this little in-
person course.

For clarity - I did no paid advertising or cold calling for this at all.
I used email and LinkedIn.

After the first year, I’d made more than £250,000 from doing 40
workshops - that’s £20k a month from selling the same thing.

I slowly crept my price point up and refined my message. Year


two, I did nearly £480k just repeating the same workshop.

All success in life comes from doing something well consistently,


your business is no different.

If you look through all areas of life, people who have succeeded
in amassing a great fortune or achieving fame have done one
thing consistently and really well.

Comedians - Repeat the same routine in different theatres


Musicians - Create a hit track and it is played over and over
Actors - Tour the country playing the same parts on stage
Public Speakers - Share the same talks over and over.

Do they have other interests?

Of course, but one thing gave them their breakthrough.

In most businesses, the breakthrough that makes everything else


possible is stability. Smashing that first 10k. That changes things
from an unpredictable business to something that is going
somewhere.

Focus and repetition are massively under-rated.


Steps To Focus On…

Define Your Offering - What is the one thing you can do that
solves a pressing pain and achieves an amazing result for
your ideal client. What is the transformation you can help
people achieve?

Define Your Ideal Client Profile - Who are the people who feel
that pain and don’t want to settle for the status quo - where
staying still is too expensive, and change HAS to happen.

Your Message - Make your content, message and business


focus on those within your ideal client profile and your
defined offering. Your message should help people
understand your transformation value.
Getting to 10k
on LinkedIn

If we want to hit consistent 10k months, we need to get in front


of lots of our ideal clients regularly. I had the bad experience of
having to get a job because I couldn’t get clients consistently,
and it made me create this saying…

ALWAYS BE MARKETING

In good times and bad, I’m always marketing my business. I


never want famine and I want more than enough leads and
enquiries to support my business. I work on the basis that my
marketing today will give me clients in the next 60-90 days.

I know if I’m proactive this month, it will show in the next two
months figures.

If we skip marketing, we’ll be thin on the ground in 60-90 days


time.

I want the option to turn down clients, if the fit isn’t right.
If we don’t get the flow of clients, we start to undermine our
focus and value by attempting ‘desperate measures’ to get
clients.

So coming to LinkedIn, we need to do a couple of things…


Optimise your profile to
clearly showcase value to
your ideal clients

There are a couple of places on your LinkedIn Profile you need


to have sorted out. These are listed below…

Header - get a branded header made up clearly showing


your ‘transformation value’

Headline - put your transformation value into your headline


underneath your name
About - Expand on your value and share some testimonials,
make clear your value to your ideal clients

Creator Mode - Turn it on, so more people will see your


content. This will make your content more visible in the
feed.

Now we need to have a big pool of ideal clients in our network


to make it easier for us to attract clients who need our help.
This means regularly connecting with them on LinkedIn.

You can use standard LinkedIn to search or, if you want to find
your Ideal Clients more accurately, I recommend using Sales
Navigator. It’s the best way to find your exact ICP and find the
most active ICPs on the platform.
You should be sending 20 connections every business day.

Quick Tip: Use the LCC method to ensure your connection


acceptance rate is high and therefore get the maximum number of
ideal clients connected.

You can add up to 400 new connections on LinkedIn every month.


This means each month you could be growing your network with
400 of your ideal clients.

Don’t waste those connection requests!

Build Awareness,
Belief and Relationships
We live in a time when it’s never been easier to set up a
business.

How awesome is that?

Well, honestly, it’s not so good.

Why?

You could be the world's biggest expert, but someone with no


experience could start up a business, be better at marketing
than you and make more money than you.

When they mess up, they damage the industry and make it
harder for you to get clients because you are tarred with the
same brush as them.

A low barrier to entry is good for competition, but doesn’t make


your life easier.

This is where posting content can be very useful.

Posting content daily, apart from perfecting your writing skills,


allows you to talk to your ideal clients every day. You get to be
in their world and share value which helps them realise you are
the answer to their problem.

Some people ask me, isn’t sharing content daily too much?

Short answer - No.


Trust is in short supply these days. Building trust by being
visible, sharing valuable and actionable advice and showing a
little of your personal / human side can all help build bridges.

Here is a simple matrix for creating content…

Teach - Explain and unpack information - make the complex


simple

Actionable - Give people things they can use - make


knowledge actionable

Solve Pain - Explain how you solve pain - promote your


offer

Testimonials - Prove your service works and delivers

Experience You - Show your human side / personal world

It’s not just about posting and forgetting, engage with those
who like, comment and engage with your ICPs, comment on
their posts etc.

If you’ve got a big network, you need to be methodical in how


you interact with your ICPs.

Engage with people a couple of times per week.


Capturing Hungry
ICPs on LinkedIn
Not all your ICPs that you connect with are going to be in
buying mode.

Some might not have the pain you solve or it might not be
painful enough yet to force them to take action. But, some of
your ICP connections will be actively hunting and looking for a
remedy for their pain.

They will be looking to locate something to relieve their pain.


Something that helps them move away from the pain and
towards a desired outcome (transformation).

So, you need a mechanism to capture those ICPs who are


hungry for a solution.

In order to get consistent 10k months you need a way to


consistently find new ICPs who are hungry for a solution.

This is where one simple PDF or Document can be incredibly


powerful.

In many fields people have a fear that if they give too much
information away for free, their ICPs will use it and not buy from
them.

This thought process is flawed.

Why? Because pretty much every piece of information is


already on Google and YouTube. Information isn’t
transformation.
Your ICPs might try to DIY it, but many can’t so they struggle.

Instead of worrying about who will do it without you (that’s an


old mindset from client famine experiences) focus on who will
get this document, appreciate it and come to you as the expert
in solving that problem.

Clients buy because the status quo has become intolerable


Clients buy services that give them the most certainty of
transformation

Your PDF will give them some practical and usable advice
about achieving that transformation. Not just stats, but actions
they can take. An overview with tips about how you achieve
transformation.

This PDF is one of those.

Once you’ve got that PDF together, here is what you need to do
with it:

Build a simple landing page. You can use your website or use a
service like Mailchimp or Leadpages.

Capture peoples first name and email address, once they enter
their email address, send them the lead magnet and a follow-
up. You can automate this on Mailchimp and Leadpages.
Getting this PDF downloaded by your ICPs:

Post about it on LinkedIn - share it 1-2 times per week

Share it with your existing network in direct messages -


drop a message into your existing connections with a link

Send it as a free resource to all your new connections -


send it as part of your thank you message when ICPs
accept your connection

I do this process myself and help my clients implement this


through our training programmes.

This brings a consistent lead flow into their business and gives
them more than enough hungry potential clients in the pot to
work with.

Converting Downloads
into Clients
The next part of the process is converting downloads into
clients. We have to do two things to get our ICPs who
downloaded our PDF to become a client.

Step 1: Follow up
You’ve got to follow up to start a conversation. A simple way is
asking your prospects if they received the PDF, then offer two
things: More insights and advice to help them achieve
transformation faster...

...AND If they are open to achieving a result more quickly, so


you can arrange a short call.

Keep this call low-key and add value, share examples from past
clients, but avoid being salesy or needy. Be open and let them
know you help people achieve this transformation as a career,
so you know the pitfalls and how to ensure the result is
achieved.

Step 2: Have a Sales Conversation


This is the part which is uncomfortable for many. Simple ways
to make this easier is to ask questions which set up the
conversation about your services.
How long has this issue been occurring?
How is this problem impacting you / your business?
What have you tried to achieve transformation already?
Why did that not work for you?
How much or a priority is this for you?
What would transformation mean to you / your business?
Is this in your top 5 things to be solved?
If this was solved in [x] months, is that a good result for you?

Once you have asked a few of these questions, you can give
some tips but also, suggest you can help your ICP achieve these
results and give a brief overview of how you do it.

If you are nervous or worried about being too salesy, ask the
ICP...

“Have you got 2 mins and I’ll walk you through how a couple of
my clients achieved the same result and how I helped them do
it?”

Most ICPs will say yes, even out of courtesy.

This is where you can help bring that certainly with examples,
stories and results you’ve achieved.

But remember, keep it relaxed and low key.

You can then ask something like “Do you think this is worth
looking at for yourself?”

Let your ICP answer and offer answers to any of their questions.

Let them do the talking and questioning.


Knowing the number behind 10k months
Once you’ve got the leads coming through, you now have to convert
them into calls and then into clients. This is where it’s important to
understand the numbers behind reaching 10k months consistently.

Here are the steps


What is your monthly revenue goal?
What is the average sale value?
How many sales do you need to make to hit 10k, 15k or 50k
What is your average conversion rate? (Download it)
What is your call rate? (how many downloads become calls)
What is your close rate? (Calls turn to clients)
How can you make the message sharper to improve success?
How many downloads do you need?

Once you have metrics being tracked, you can quickly work out how
many downloads you need each week or month to hit your revenue
goal.

If you’re average sale is 2k, you need 5 sales to hit 10k,


If you convert 40% of your calls into clients, you need 13 calls per
month to hit 10k

If you convert 25% of your downloads into calls you need 52


downloads per month

So, sending your PDF to all your new connections (up to 400 per
month) and posting it, you need 52 per month to hit 10k.

As an example, one of my recent clients in a six week period, had


more than 500 downloads by messaging his network and sharing it in
his feed. His business has rocketed.

As you start to track these numbers, they will highlight areas you can
improve. Mastering your PDF, landing page, follow up and your sales
conversation.

It’s not a once and done thing. You improve as you go... get it working
and then make it better over time.
Now you need to act

From my own experience, I know how good it can feel to leave the
uncertainty behind. To get out of feast and famine. You can’t plan
ahead when your cashflow is unpredictable.

As I’ve shown you in this guide, with some simple systems, you can
bring that stability and hit predictable numbers.
