Goverdhan Lok

(Residential Housing Project)

Synopsis

Govardhan Parikrama, a pilgrimage around Govardhan

Hill, is a key ritual for devotees seeking blessings and
spiritual rejuvenation.

Mathura, the birthplace of Lord Krishna, holds immense

significance for millions of Hindus in the world. One of the
prime pilgrimages in Mathura is the Govardhan
Parikrama, a circumambulation around the sacred
Govardhan Hill.

Govardhan Parikrama, the importance

Lord Krishna lifted the Govardhan Hill on his finger to
protect the Brajwasis from torrential rains. This act of
devotion and protection underscores the hill's
significance, making it a focal point of pilgrimage for
devotees seeking blessings and spiritual

Govardhan Parikrama typically covers a distance of 21

km and can be completed on foot, by cycle, or even by
vehicle for those with physical limitations. The parikrama
(circumambulation) path winds through villages, forests,
temples, and sacred sites associated with Lord Krishna's
pastimes and devotees’ legends. The route is divided into
different segments, each marked by significant
landmarks:

Begin at Mansi Ganga: Many pilgrims begin their

parikrama from Mansi Ganga Kund, a sacred pond
believed to have manifested from Lord Krishna’s mind
(manas). Devotees perform rituals and take a ceremonial
bath here before commencing the journey.

Radha Kund and Shyama Kund: These twin sacred ponds

are associated with Radha-Krishna's divine love. Pilgrims
visit these kunds to pay homage and seek blessings for
spiritual purification.

Dan Ghati: A narrow gorge where it is said that Krishna

accepted food offerings (Dan) from his devotees. Pilgrims
often distribute food to the needy in this area as part of
their spiritual practice.
Govardhan Parikrama in Mathura offers devotees an
enriching experience of faith, devotion, and spiritual
rejuvenation. It is a pilgrimage that transcends time,
connecting believers with the divine pastimes of Lord
Krishna and the sacred landscapes of Braj Bhumi.
