CHRISTMAS SOCKS 2022

This year’s Christmas socks have not a traditional Christmas pattern but is
knitted in the colors that symbolizes the Christmas to me. That means that you
can use this pattern as a basic one as the socks have a real good fit or just
change the colors if you would like to knit Spring or Summer socks.

Size: EU shoe sizes 37 – 38 (39 – 40) women

US women’s shoe sizes 6,5 – 7,5 (8,5 – 9,5)

Yarn: Sandnes Sisu 80% wool 20 % nylon

50 g = 175 m (191 yds)

Material: MC 1042 light grey, 100 g

CC1 4228 red, 50 g
CC2 1002 off white 50 g

Needles: Double pointed needles 2.5 mm (US1,5), 3 mm (US2,5)

Measurements: The socks are measured unblocked

From cuff to heel 13 cm (5.1”)
Foot circumference 23 (25) cm 9” (9,8”)
Lenght of foot 24 (26) cm 9,5” (10,2”)
or the length you wish for.
Beware of that you need more yarn if you want to make the
socks longer.
Leg circumference at colorwork approx 24 (26) cm 9,4”
(10.2”)

Gauge: 28 sts x 36 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 inches) stockinette

stitch needles 2,5 mm (US1,5)

Abbrevations: Dpns = double pointed needles

st(s) = stitch(es)
rnd(s) = round(s)
k = knit
p = purl
MC = main color
CC = contrast color
k2tog = Knit 2 stitches together knitwise through front loop.
sl = slip 1 st as if you purl.
ssk = slip next 2 sts, one-by-one. As if you knit. Insert tip of
left needle into the fronts of these two sts from left to right
and knit them together.
k1tbl = knit 1 stitch in the back loop
RS = right side
WS = wrong side
Advice: -When you knit the 24 rounds from the chart it could be a
good thing to change to dpn 3 mm US2,5 if you need to. Just
so the color work won’t be too tight. When the 24 rounds are
knitted you change back to needles 2,5 mm US1,5.
-Also remember that the yarn you hold closest to your work
is the one that will be the most dominant. You need to
decide which color that should be the dominant one already
from the start

Cuff &Leg: Cast on with MC 64 (72) sts with dpn 2,5 mm (US1,5) 16
(18) sts on each needle. Join the work in the round being
careful not to twist the sts. Knit the 1st rnd. 10 rnds k1, p1.
Knit the the chart = 24 rnds.

Repeat the chart over all the sts. Be careful not to hold the
yarn to tight. Then you could have difficulty to pull the sock
over the foot.

When you have worked the chart, don’t forget to change

back to dpn 2,5(US1,5). Continue with MC until the leg
measures 13cm (5.1”) or the length you wish for.

Heel: The heel is knitted over the sts on needles 1 and 4 = 32 (36)
sts. The sts on needles 2 and 3 rest.

The heel is knitted with two colors MC and CC1 in

stockinette stitch.

Right sock:
Start from RS. k16 (k18) with MC. Change to CC1 k16 (k18)
Don’t forget to twist the threads when you change color so
there will be no gaps. Knit with the 2 colors until the heel flap
measures 5 (5,5) cm 2” (2.2”) Knit 2 rows with MC.

Left sock:
Start from RS. k16 (k18) CC1. Change to MC k16 (k18)
Don’t forget to twist the threads when you change color so
there will be no gaps. Knit with the 2 colors until the heel flap
measures 5 (5,5) cm 2” (2.2”) Knit 2 rows with MC.

Heel turn: Row 1 (RS): k20 (k21), ssk, k1, turn

Row 2 (WS): sl1, p7, p2tog, p1, turn
Row 3 (RS): sl1, k8, ssk, k1, turn
Row 4 (WS): sl1, p9, p2tog, p1, turn

Continue turning and decreasing as established (one stitch

decreased every row) until all sts have been worked.
There are now 20 (22) sts on the needle.

Gusset: Knit 10 (11) sts from the heel. Change needle and knit the
remaining 10 (11) sts, pick up 14(16) sts along the left side
of the heel flap. Knit the sts on needle 2 and 3. Pick up
14 (16) sts along the right side of the heel flap and knit 10
(11) sts = the middle of the heel and from now on every rnd
begins here. Knit 2 rnds over all sts. On the first rnd you knit
the picked up sts in the back loop. In this way you can avoid
gaps and it will look better. Now knit the gusset decrease.

Gusset decrease: Round 1:

Needle 1 knit until 3 sts remains, k2tog, k1.
Needles 2 and 3 knit over all the sts.
Needle 4 k1, ssk, knit the remaining sts

Round 2:
Knit over all sts

Repeat these 2 rnds until you have 16 (18) sts on each

needle = 64 (72) sts.

Foot: Continue to knit until the foot measures 13 (14) cm 5.1”

(5.5”) or the length wish for. Start to knit the stripes:
2 rnds CC1
2 rnds MC
2 rnds CC2
2 rnds MC
2 rnds CC1
2 rnds MC
2 rnds CC2
2 rnds MC
2 rnds CC1
2 rnds MC

Toe: Decrease sts for the toe:

Round 1:
Needle 1 knit until 3 sts remain, ssk, k1
Needle 2 k1, k2tog, knit remaining sts
Needle 3 knit until 3 sts remain ssk, k1
Needle 4 k1, k2tog, knit remaining sts
Round 2
Knit all sts

Repeat these 2 rnds until you have 4 sts left on each needle.
Now put the sts on two needles 8 sts on each.

Graft toe top to bottom using Kitchener stitch.

Weave in the ends.
