Non-continuous verbs / non action verbs:


many verbs express a state than activity, so they are not used in
any continuous tenses. These verbs fall into the following
groups:
1. Verbs that describe wants, likes and preferences: want,
like, wish, prefer, hope…
2. Verbs that describe thought process and opinions: think,
believe, know, remind, understand…
3. Verbs of the senses: hear, see, smell, touch, taste, feel…
BUT sense verbs that describe action like watch, listen,
stare, look used in continuous forms.
4. Verbs of belonging and containing: posses, own, have,
belong…
Many of the state verbs can be action verbs with the
change of meaning. With the new meaning, they can be
used in the continuous forms. That a continuous forms
show a temporary action.
 She is usually quite honest. (permanent condition)
 She is not being very honest. (temporary condition)
 I think you are unreliable. (have an opinion)
 I am thinking of changing my job. (consider)

 Put in effort: spend a lot of effort to do it.


 Be on the lookout for sth/sb: to continuously watch a
place to find sth you want or to be ready for problems or
opportunities.
We are always on the lookout for new business opportunities.
 Appeal to sb: if sth or sb appeals to you, they seen
interesting

 Appeal for: to make a serious public request
Church and community leaders have appealed for calm.
 Fund (n): an amount of money that is collected and kept
for a particular purpose.
They held a sale to raise funds for the school.

As regards pollution, old vehicles are the worst offenders.
 Get on with sb (v): to have a good relationship with
someone
 Get on with sth: to continue doing sth

 laid- back (adj): relaxed, easy going

 Have a sense of humor:
Having a good sense of humor is a great feature.
 Take up an activity (v): if you take up an activity, you
become interested in it and spend time doing it, either as a
hobby or as a career.

Listening part:
Make redundant:

Be at a bit of a loose end: be free and has nothing to do

End up doing sth: to come in the place or situation that you did
not plan to be in
