§ A report on the status of diurnal arboreal

mammals in and around the forest of
Sharavathi Valley Lion-tailed Macaque (LTM)
Sanctuary which has been submitted to the
Karnataka Forest Department recently has
revealed that there are 730 LTM in vicinity.

§ The LTMs are being a habitat specialist

confined to a narrow range of evergreen
forests along the slopes and adjoining forests .
§ The report has also called for initiatives and interventions which
are required to manage the LTM and its habitat in the sanctuary.
§ The Lion-tailed macaque (Macaca silenus) is an Old World monkey.
§ In the wild, these are only native to India.
§ It is a primate endemic to small and severely fragmented
rainforests of the Western Ghats in Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil
Nadu.

§ IIT Bombay has secured the top spot in India in the latest QS World
University Rankings 2025.

§ The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B) has risen from

149th in 2024 to 118th in the 2025 rankings, marking an
improvement of 31 places.

§ The global university ranking agency said that 61 per cent of Indian
universities have improved their standings as compared to last year.
§ As in the previous year, IIT Bombay is followed by IIT Delhi and the
Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, which are ranked
second and third in India, respectively.

§ IIT Delhi advanced 47 positions, from 197 last year to 150 this year,
while IISc improved 14 places, from 225 to 211 in the world
rankings.

§ IIT Indore is the only institute that recorded a decline, falling from
454 in 2024 to 477 in 2025.
§ For the 13th consecutive year, MIT has secured the top rank, followed by
the United Kingdom’s Imperial College London.

§ The third rank is jointly held by Harvard University.

§ ESA developed the Zero Debris Charter, a non-binding
agreement, with the goal of no net addition of debris in
orbit by 2030.

§ This include reducing the risks of a satellite creating debris

through a collision or break up to no greater than 1-in-
1,000 and keeping the risk of casualties on the ground
caused by debris from a reentering satellite to
“significantly” lower than 1-in-10,000.

§ The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the

Global Environment Facility (GEF) have launched the $135 million
Blue and Green Islands Integrated Programme (BGI-IP) at the Fourth
International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS4).
§ This initiative underscores the critical role of nature and aims to
expand nature-based solutions in urban development, food
production, and tourism sectors to combat environmental
degradation.
§ Targeting 15 SIDS, the program seeks to foster nature-positive
changes from 2024 to 2034, aligning with the Decade of Action.
§ The BGI-IP will support 15 SIDS selected through a competitive
"Expressions of Interest" process, representing all SIDS sub-
regions: the Caribbean, the Pacific, and the Atlantic, Indian Ocean,
and South China Sea (AIS).

§ The program will provide resources to expand successful local

initiatives addressing sustainable agriculture, fisheries, nature-
friendly tourism, pollution reduction, and resilience to extreme
weather events.

§ Key partners include UNEP, FAO, the World Bank, WWF-US, IUCN,
and UNCCD, among others, supporting sustainable economic
