5. Listening Part 1
Conversation : -1-
Julia: Yes ... I wanted a new dress for a party this weekend ...
Julia: I know. I tried on dresses in a few stores. There was this really nice purple one, but it
was expensive. Then I put on this striped T-shirt which combines with these brown
pants.
Mum: OK. You should wear your blue ankle boots with them.
Conversation: -2-
Chris: It was a busy weekend. We were going to see a baseball game, but it got canceled.
Then Mom suggested the theater. I wasn’t interested but my sister wanted to go.
We dressed up so I wore a long-sleeved shirt and pants. The funny thing is it was in
the park, so it was more relaxed. Later, we went for ice cream.
Conversation: -3-
Dad: Now children, remember what you need to do when we get to grandma’s house. She
doesn’t like a messy house so where should you put your coats? No! I don’t want
to see any coats on the armchair or sofa. You need to hang your coats up. There’s
a coat rack next to the front door. The heating will be on inside the house because
she needs a warm house.
Conversation: -4-
Ben: I totally got my clothes wrong today. The weather forecast said it was going to be
cold and windy. This morning I put on a long-sleeved shirt, and hoodie. Now it’s
really hot. I took my hoodie off an hour ago. What should I do?
Laura: Why don’t you roll up the sleeves? Yes, that’s right. Now you’re wearing a short-
sleeved shirt. I love this sunny weather!

Lily: Yes, I’m home now. My vacation was fantastic because we visited so many different
places. I climbed mountains, visited museums, and went shopping. No, I didn’t buy
the usual souvenirs like a T-shirt or hat. I got some new sneakers. I wore my old ones
out because of walking. The new ones are fantastic. They’re striped and comfortable.
Conversation: -6-
Mum: You can’t go outside like that. Your denim jacket is for summer.
Mum: It’s very cold and there is a strong wind. You should put your coat on. And bundle
up. For example, wear your scarf and hat too. I don’t want you to catch a cold in this
bad weather.
Conversation: -7-
Johanna: Look at me! I’m wearing jeans, a red T-shirt, and a pink hoodie.
Nancy: Uggh! I don’t think red and pink go together. You should take off the pink zip-up
hoodie.
Nancy: Do you have your light brown jacket? That would look perfect.
