1. What is Cooperative Management?

by their members. This unique structure requires a specific approach to
management.
 The key characteristics of cooperative management are.
a. Members have equal voting rights, regardless of their shareholding.
b. The primary goal is to meet the needs and aspirations of the members.
c. Cooperatives often prioritize community development and sustainability.

2. Elaborate on the history of cooperative management.

 The roots of cooperatives can be traced back to ancient times, but the modern
cooperative movement gained momentum in the 19th century.
I. Early cooperatives: Mutual aid societies and credit unions were early
forms of cooperatives, providing support to their members.
II. The Rochdale Pioneers: In 1844, a group of 28 weavers in Rochdale,
England, founded the Rochdale Equitable Pioneers Society. This
cooperative grocery store is often considered the birthplace of the
modern cooperative movement. It established the core principles of
cooperatives that are still used today.
III. Growth and expansion: The cooperative movement spread rapidly
worldwide, addressing various social and economic needs. Agricultural
cooperatives, housing cooperatives, and worker cooperatives emerged.
IV. Challenges and adaptations: Cooperatives have faced challenges such
as economic downturns, globalization, and changing consumer
preferences. However, they have also adapted to these challenges by
embracing innovation and new business models.
