QUESTION 2

Mrs Sereme needs to rent a small kitchen where she can bake her scones . Her ingredients will cost
R500 daily and she plans on earning an income of R 1000 per day.She considers the following
offer for renting:
R7 000 rent per month with electricity included in the rental cost.
Monthly expenditure = R7000 rent + R500 × number of days
TABLE 1: The cost for renting and income per day.

2.4 The graph of income is drawn on Annexure A. Draw the graph of monthly expenditure on
the same Annexure. Label the graphs and show clearly the break-even point. (4)
2.5 Use your graph to describe the trend of income versus expenditure graphs. (2)

QUESTION 3

Mrs Sereme is a retired Consumer Studies educator. She owns a business of selling different types
of cakes including scones. The recipe for baking scones is given below.

I NGREDIENTS (Makes 12 scones)

2 cups all –purpose flour


2 tablespoon salt
teaspoon salt
8 tablespoons cold butter
cup sugar (uses for sweeter scones)

cup milk

Note: 1 cup = 250 ml


1 inch = 2,54 cm
1 tablespoon = 15 ml

METHOD

Mix dry ingredients in a large bowl. Add butter until crumbs are formed. Add milk. Place dough on
floured counter pat or roll into circle about 1 inch thick.
Cut into 12 squares. Place on a greased tray and bake at 356 °F until light brown.
Preparation time : 30 minutes Cooking time: 15 minutes

Use the information above to answer the questions that follow.


3.1 Determine the total time (in hours) to prepare and cook the scones. (3)
3.2 Mrs Sereme started preparing the scones at 14:55. She claims that the scones will be ready
by 15:30. Verify, through calculations, whether her claim is valid. (3)
3.3 Calculate how much all-purpose flour ( in ml) is needed to bake 36 scones. (3)
3.4 Express the baking temperature of 356 °F in °C
You may use the formula: °C = (°F – 32°) ÷ 1,8 (2)
3.5 Mrs Sereme baked 48 scones, determine how many teaspoons of salt were required: (2)

3.6 The picture below shows the dimensions of a baking pan Mrs Sereme uses for the scones:

3.6.1 Calculate the area of the baking pan.


You may use the following formula: Area = length × breadth (2)
3.6..2 Mrs Sereme wants to bake 85 scones. Calculate how many baking pns of scones will
she make if each scones’ dimensions are 4cm × 4 cm. (6)

Ms Malumane decides to install a solar geyser .She buys a solar geyser at an auction. The geyser is
new, but unfortunately no longer in a box. The following is a picture of the solar geyser and its
dimensions.

Use the picture above to answer the questions that follow.


4.1 Define the term capacity. (2)
4.2 Calculate the volume of the geyser in litre.
You may use the formula: volume of cylinder = πr 2 x h where π = 3,142
